About the job

Are you interested in a pedagogical job where the relationship to each individual is central, and where there is also room for professionalism, presence, and humor?

We are looking for an engaged pedagogue for a permanent position of 30 hours per week at our department “Stationsvej” in Årslev, since one of our staff has reduced their hours to study.

Who are we?

Sommerfuglen is a residence for 18 adults with reduced mental functioning. We have 2 departments, both located in Årslev on Funen.

We have existed since 2004 and are organized as a non-profit foundation that offers temporary housing (§ 107), longer-term housing (§ 108) and an internal activity and social interaction offer (§ 104).

For us, Sommerfuglen is first and foremost about the good life for the residents.

We want to create a home where each resident is met with respect, care and understanding, while also being a workplace where the employee has the opportunity to use both their professional skills and themselves as a person.

For us, it is a heartfelt matter to work with people who need support to get everyday life and living to hang together. Therefore we make an effort, even when everyday life is busy, or things do not go exactly as planned.

Professionally, our pedagogical work primarily draws on Gentle Teaching and neuro-pedagogy, and we also work with Motivational Interviewing (MI).

The everyday at Stationsvej

At Stationsvej live 9 adults with different psychiatric challenges and reduced mental functioning. All have spoken language and full physical ability. It is not primarily a care task in the job.

A large part of your work will involve being present and helping each resident navigate the small and large challenges of daily life. No two days are the same. Sometimes there is a need for a good talk or help to create an overview. Other times it is about preventing or solving a conflict, creating calm, or supporting a resident in making their own choices.

And life also consists of all the ordinary things we help and support the residents with, e.g.:

  • doctor visits and other appointments
  • shopping, finances and health
  • cooking
  • tidying, cleaning and laundry
  • structure and overview of daily life.

We believe that good pedagogy can also be found in small moments: after dinner, on the way to the doctor, during a chat in the kitchen, or when something that used to be difficult suddenly succeeds.

Our task is not to do everything for the residents. We must support them in preserving and developing their own skills and achieving as much independence, influence and quality of life as possible.

You will become part of a team

You will become part of a fixed staff group with 5 other contact-pedagogues and 4-5 hourly employees.

We work closely together, and it matters to us that we can rely on each other, both when we need to find the best pedagogical solution and when a day has been a bit more challenging than expected.

You start by becoming a contact-pedagogue for one to two residents and work with another colleague around each contact-resident. Together you have a special responsibility to follow the residents’ development, agreements, goals and pedagogical interventions.

Documentation is also part of the job. As a contact-pedagogue you will be responsible for the written aspects of the action plans we work from. We see documentation as an important part of the pedagogical work and as a tool to create coherence and direction in the effort – not least in cooperation with the municipalities.

The position typically includes 2 evening shifts per week and about 2 weekend shifts per month. The shifts take place between 7:30 and 20:00.

Who do we hope you are?

We are naturally looking for a professionally skilled colleague. But we are just as much looking for the right person.

We are looking for you who

  • is educated as a pedagogue or has a similar intermediate humanities or care-related education
  • would preferably have experience with people with reduced mental functioning and/or psychiatric issues
  • is curious about people and tries to understand what lies behind a behavior
  • can keep calm and maintain the relationship, even when something becomes difficult
  • can set boundaries in a respectful, caring and clear way
  • can work independently, but also knows when it is important to reach out to a colleague
  • contributes to the community and the good atmosphere at the workplace
  • has a valid driving license
  • is stable and can thrive in a job where days and people are not always predictable

You do not need to be able to do everything from day one. The most important is that you want to learn, reflect on your own practice and be part of our shared professional development.

We take our work seriously, but also place a high value on room for laughter, warmth and personality.

What do you get with us?

We want Sommerfuglen to be a place where you can develop and thrive.

You will receive, among other things

  • a fixed and experienced colleague group
  • group supervision 4-5 times a year
  • staff meetings about three times a month
  • theme days and professional sparring
  • opportunity for competence development
  • influence on the pedagogical work
  • a workplace where there is room for diversity, reflection and the whole person.

The position comes with a fixed monthly salary, and in addition you will receive

  • 6 weeks of vacation
  • 16.5% pension – 11% paid by Sommerfuglen and 5.5% from your own contribution
  • health insurance
  • 1.5% holiday allowance

Have we sparked your interest?

You are, of course, welcome to call if you have questions about the position.
