The Institute for Clinical Medicine at Aarhus University's Health Faculty seeks 1 external associate professor for Geriatric Medicine, AUH as of 1 December 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a 5-year part-time appointment with 25 working hours per semester.

Institute for Clinical Medicine

As an external associate professor at the Institute for Clinical Medicine you will be part of considered the largest health science research institute in Denmark. Clinical research covers all medical specialties and takes place in collaboration with the university hospital and regional hospitals in the Central Denmark Region. We have about 30,000 sqm of modern research facilities for experimental surgery and medicine, animal facilities and advanced scanners.

The institute has overall responsibility for the master's programs in medicine and in molecular medicine. At the institute there are about 670 scientific staff, 500 PhD students and 160 technical/administrative staff, who collaborate across disciplines. As an external associate professor you will work at Aarhus University Hospital or another hospital in the Central Denmark Region. Your duties

As an external associate professor you contribute to the development of the institute's subject area through teaching of high international quality. Your main tasks are to develop, plan and conduct teaching within the department's or unit's specialty and the applicable study plan. In your daily work you have a close interaction with competent colleagues.

Your tasks will mainly consist of

• Conduct teaching, lectures, courses and conduct examinations
• Conduct supervision (e.g. individual study programs, theses)
• Plan teaching (e.g. UPL function, elective courses, individual programs)
• Contribute to development of new teaching activities.
• Examine and conduct evaluations (assignment preparation, oral examination, assessment of MCQ and short answer, OSCE, competence card, individual programs)
• Contribute to a good working environment and a good study environment.

As an external associate professor you commit to fulfilling the agreed number of annual working hours, which in this context will in principle amount to 25 working hours per semester. A different number of hours may be agreed as part of the appointment.

Your qualifications

• You are employed by the Department of Geriatric Medicine, AUH
• You have solid practical experience within the department's field and would like to teach medical students in clinical subjects.
• It is advantageous if you have teaching qualifications.
• As a person you are dedicated and have good communication skills.
• You will take co-responsibility for developing the institute's education at the highest international level and for maintaining a good working environment.
• We expect you to speak and write fluent Danish.

Compensation

The appointment and salary are in accordance with the Circular on agreements for external associate professors at universities.

The hourly wage per hour worked is 247.01 DKK in the base amount (as of 31 March 2012). The amount is paid for the semester usually monthly in arrears with 1/5, as there is no payment in July and August.

The Selection Committee may decide to request not submitted material in the assessment. In that case we will contact you, and you will be obliged to submit material unless your application is withdrawn.

Basis of employment

• Employment as external associate professor requires qualifications at master's level.
• In addition, employment as external associate professor requires either relevant practical experience at a high level, not obtained through a university scientific appointment, or employment in a scientific principal position at another university.
• An external associate professor appointed on the basis of relevant practical experience must have substantial, current knowledge of the subject's/field's applications. This is achieved through employment within the field/area.
• Furthermore, employment as external associate professor requires teaching qualifications to be included in the assessment of applicants for an external associate professorship.
