About the job

Are you our upcoming education professional with a knack for working with children with autism? We are seeking new colleagues for the Special Institution Troldemosen.

Do you want to use your pedagogical expertise where relationships, the small signs and the small progress really matter? And do you thrive in a daily life where you both need to slow the pace right down and be ready to change direction when the child calls for something else?

We are looking for you who are genuinely curious about children who cannot always tell with words what they need. You who can stay calm and hold on when it is necessary – and change course when that is what is needed.

And you should be keen to use your colleagues. For we become better at our work when we think together.

So maybe you are the one we are looking for.

Welcome to Troldemosen

Troldemosen Children’s House is a special institution under Gentofte Municipality with about 40 children aged 0–7 years with various permanent physical and mental disabilities.

You will with a job with us join a strong professional and engaged house, where pedagogues, aides, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists and psychologists work side by side to create the best daily life for our children’s well-being and development.

Troldemosen consists of 4 teams, and each of the 4 teams at Troldemosen cares for up to 11 children with a wide range of different diagnoses.

About the job

You will as an educator become part of a fixed team either with Mumitroldene or Bjergtroldene.

The children in the groups are 3-6 years old and have diagnoses within autism spectrum disorders (ASD), ADHD and other developmental challenges.

Common to them is a very limited language, sensory challenges, and a great need for adult support and guidance. We base our work on each child’s resources and have close collaboration with the child’s parents. The children need a structured and predictable everyday life, and within that framework we plan trips in our cargo bikes, go to the forest, visit playgrounds, the swimming pool etc. A workday in Troldemosen can include anything from close 1:1 interaction to activities with several children, play, trips, meals, personal care, communication, sensation and movement.

"It is a great professional and personal motivation to go to work in Troldemosen. I am professionally challenged on a daily basis, both by the very complex and wonderful children we have, but also in the sparring I have with my close colleagues and the interdisciplinary team." (Pedagogue in Troldemosen).

With a positive attitude to the specialized area, you understand being open to working with children who are different and manage to adapt your approach and shape the framework to their needs. You are curious, quick to learn and happy to bring your own ideas and input.

You will as an educator become part of an educational everyday life, with a focus on presence with the children, time for documentation, various meetings and professional sparring with the cross-disciplinary team.

You will also become the designated pedagogue for 2-3 children, where you are responsible for preparing status descriptions and have ongoing sparring and dialogue with the families of your designated children.

With us you can expect

  • That you get a varied and very different daily life with wind in your hair and good laughter with both children and colleagues.
  • That you get a everyday life where there is room for play and depth, and where you can challenge and develop yourself together with the team as well as with the children.
  • That there is always a strong and engaged team and management behind you.
  • An inspiring interdisciplinary environment with experienced and professionally grounded colleagues.

We do not expect

  • That you have previously worked with children on the spectrum or with other diagnoses, but it would be an advantage.

What we do expect

  • That you thrive in a quirky and different daily life in a changing pace.
  • That you can be calm and present, even if plans and the children's daily form change.
  • That you can be patient and wait for the children’s initiative, but at the same time also be able to take the initiative for play.
  • That you can be with the children in quiet when they need it and that you can tolerate a daily life with sometimes high noise levels.
  • That you are open to being alone with our 1:1 children as well as having the responsibility for two children at the same time.
  • That you can see the inspiring and developing in sparring with your colleagues in everyday life about big and small.

Working hours

30-37 hours per week. Our opening hours are 8-17 Monday to Thursday, and 8-16 on Fridays. There will be meetings and administrative hours until 19 on every other Tuesday, where you get an extra opportunity to engage with your closest colleagues. There will also be approx. 5 joint meetings, 2 children's parties, 2 parent meetings and two theme days annually.
