About the job

Are you an experienced jurist with a good knowledge of public law and administrative law? Do you want to work with and advise on complex legal issues in a strong professional environment where legal certainty and the role of the authorities are central? Then perhaps you are the one we are looking for!

The law behind debt collection

In the staff office Law, businesses we handle the legal questions that arise when the Debt Register Agency (Gældsstyrelsen) collects debt. This includes, for example, clarifications regarding the Debt Collection Act and its interaction with the legislation that regulates the many different public creditors that the Debt Register Agency collects debt for. In addition, administrative law is the foundation of our work as a public authority, and it therefore plays a central role in all our deliverables.

As our new colleague, you will play a key role in finding answers to the legal questions that arise when the Debt Collection Act and other relevant legislation must be applied in practice. At the same time, you will become an important sparring partner for our management and subject areas on questions of exercise of authority, new legislation and development of IT solutions.

Your daily work will offer interesting legal assessments, and you will be involved when new rules, solutions and workflows need to take shape. The tasks are complex and give you ample opportunity for professional development.

You will, among other things, come to

  • prepare legal assessments and decision drafts,
  • provide legal sparring and advice to subject areas and the management on debt-collection related and strategic issues,
  • contribute to consultations and legislative work,
  • prepare responses to the department, including for questions from the Tax Committee of the Folketing and other committees,
  • advise on legal questions in connection with the development of IT systems,
  • quality assure the Legal Guide, which contains the Tax Administration’s understanding of applicable law,
  • process requests for access to information under the Access to Public Administration Files Act.

The tasks vary, and you will have the opportunity to delve into principled legal issues and apply your professional expertise in collaboration with colleagues across the Debt Register Agency and the Tax Administration.

We are looking for an experienced jurist

You hold a cand.jur. or cand.merc.jur. degree and have several years of experience as a jurist, preferably from a public authority or a law firm. You have a solid knowledge of public law and administrative law. If you also have experience with bond law and access to information under the Public Administration Act, that is an advantage – but not a requirement.

We also imagine that you

  • have a strong legal method and can go into depth with complex issues without losing oversight,
  • can translate law into clear recommendations and a basis for decisions,
  • can drive your own tasks forward and navigate a large organization with many professional and organizational considerations,
  • communicate clearly and precisely and thrive in a advisory role with broad collaboration.

You do not need to have worked with debt collection before. The most important thing is that you want to dive into a new, specialized area and use your legal experience on new problems.

Your new workplace

In Law, businesses you will have 13 fantastic colleagues. We work in smaller teams with professional specialization in insolvency law, enforcement questions, and public debt collection law. In terms of experience and background, we span the full range; from the newly educated to colleagues with many years in the labor market, and from the jurist with a deposited attorney registration to the jurist who has built up their experience internally in the Tax Administration.

We place a high value on collaboration and sparring, both within the individual teams and in the office. We have an informal tone of voice, where we find humor in everyday life. We celebrate each other’s birthdays, celebrate small and large successes, and there is always room to share weekend experiences over lunch.

We focus on thoroughness, high professional standards and efficiency in our deliveries, and we expect the same from you. Together we ensure that the office’s deliverables meet the high expectations placed on them.

Together on an important task

The Debt Register Agency is responsible for collecting debt owed to the public. It is a task of great importance to society. We place great emphasis on you being able to see yourself in a culture where values such as integrity and responsibility guide everything we do. We are a workplace where we lift together and support each other – both in daily work in the office and across the agency.
