The Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences at Aarhus University, is seeking from 1 December 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter 2-4 external lecturers to fulfil the role as Educationally Responsible Pregraduate Lecturer (UPL). The positions are advertised for filling at the hospital departments in Region Midtjylland, which serve as clinical sites for medical students in the master's programme, and where ongoing assessments are conducted using competence cards.

The positions are temporary for a five-year period until 30.11.2031, and advertised at a workload of 10 hours per semester.

Please indicate in your application which department and hospital you are employed at, and which semester you will commence as UPL:

1st semester – Clinical and Pathophysiology I

3rd semester – Clinical II

4th semester - Head, Nerve and Psychiatry

5th semester – GOP

Institute of Clinical Medicine

As an external lecturer at the Institute of Clinical Medicine you will become part of what is arguably the largest health science research institute in Denmark. The clinical research covers all medical specialties and takes place in collaboration with the university hospital and regional hospitals in Region Midtjylland. We have about 30,000 m² of modern research facilities for experimental surgery and medicine, animal facilities, and advanced scanners.

The institute has overall responsibility for the master programs in medicine and molecular medicine. At the institute we are about 670 scientific staff, 500 PhD students and 160 technical/administrative staff, collaborating across disciplines. As an external lecturer you will work at Aarhus University Hospital or another hospital in Region Midtjylland. You can read more about the institute here and about the faculty here.

Your tasks

As an external lecturer and UPL you will become a key person in relation to the clinical student teaching at the hospital departments. The detailed framework for the role and duties are provided in the respective Framework for Educationally Responsible Pregraduate Lecturers and on the UPL website, which is established in a collaboration between Aarhus University and Region Midtjylland.

As UPL you mainly have a special responsibility to ensure that the department carries out specific elements in accordance with learning objectives and the study plan:

  • Systematic feedback on clinical practice using competence cards
  • Ongoing competence assessment and summative testing, including approval of clinical placements.

The educational task in connection with the clinical placements is the responsibility of the entire department, and it is expected that all staff groups participate in it, but the UPL function has a decisive role in raising and coordinating this task by contributing to the following functions:

  • Plan and quality assurance of clinical placements: e.g. introduction, logistics, department-specific workflows and procedures, skills training, so these meet the students' learning needs
  • Implementation of the activities the students must be able to participate in within the department
  • Contribute to ensuring the department's staff understand the shared responsibility for clinical placements: involvement, guidance, supervision, feedback, etc.
  • Contribute to the continued development of the department's educational culture
  • Ensure follow-up and any adjustments of clinical placements based on evaluations and quality indicators from the university

You will report in your employment as external lecturer to the clinical chair professor within your specialty.

Your competencies

You have practical experience from medical work and the role of physician, as well as insight into medical education - including teaching. In addition, it is an advantage if you are interested in medical pedagogy and working with learning in the clinic. You are willing and eager to undertake coordination, development and teaching of medical students. Good organizational skills will be valued - you can initiate and drive something to success.

As a person you are approachable and possess good cooperation and communication skills. You also have the ability to contribute to a good working environment – also across disciplines.

Besides your appointment as external lecturer and the function as UPL, you must be employed as a physician in the department.

To be considered qualified for the position, you must meet these professional criteria.

To be considered for the position, the applicant must meet the formal requirements for scientific appointments at Aarhus University and submit all relevant application materials before the deadline. Applications that are substantially defective will not be considered.

Obtaining a criminal record certificate is a prerequisite for employment in the position.
