Prison Officer

Do you want an exciting job where you can help make a difference? Denmark's Prisons are looking for prison guards to staff the Danish prisons and detention centers.

As a prison guard, your job is to maintain the framework for a safe and predictable daily life for the inmates. You will work with people from all walks of life and help develop and maintain a constructive rehabilitation environment. Most importantly, you contribute to motivating the inmates to a life without crime.

In the training you will learn

• about the prison guard's authority, Denmark's Prisons' values, applicable rules and guidelines.
• to be aware of and reflect on your own actions in order to build a professional relationship with the inmates.
• to communicate clearly and use the right tools in potential conflict situations.

As a prison guard you should therefore

• be able to make decisions, even when it becomes difficult.
• be motivated to make a difference for people who find themselves in a difficult and life-changing situation.
• be balanced, responsible and, not least, have capacity.

As a prison guard you get a job with great responsibility. You must be able to balance between order and security and be able to support and motivate the inmates on the path to a lawful and good life on the other side of the wall.

Start date

Training start for prison guards occurs three times a year in January, April and September, where the three years alternate between school and practice in our institutions.
