About the job

In Planning and Development you will become part of a social and professionally strong coworker community, where a well-functioning collaboration both within the department and across Culture and Development is crucial to our success.

We have exciting and challenging projects as well as good colleagues ready to welcome you. We are looking for an experienced local planner who wants to get a peek of leadership.

Syddjurs Municipality is a workplace that prioritizes flexibility and efficiency. There is typically the possibility of 1-2 days of remote work per week, while the rest of the workweek is spent in good company with colleagues at the town hall in Ebeltoft.

There is significant development underway in Syddjurs Municipality, and the City Council has a strong focus on supporting this development, while ensuring it is balanced with nature, the landscape, and local communities. Therefore, over several years extra resources have been allocated to local planning.

The City Council has large ambitions for sustainable urban development. Therefore, we work with a thorough political kick-off of the projects, including completing sustainability forms, preparing starter statements and project descriptions from developers. Citizen involvement is highly prioritized in all planning processes, and you must therefore be keen to work in an environment where both the City Council and the citizens of Syddjurs Municipality are active participants in the development of future projects.

Who are we?

The Department of Planning and Development will consist of 18 permanent employees with diverse professional backgrounds. We handle a wide range of tasks within physical planning, including municipal planning, structural plans, local plans, and larger urban development projects. But local planning is clearly the task that occupies the most.

With us you will receive clear boundaries to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with your colleagues. We support each other weekly in handling each other’s tasks through joint sparring and knowledge sharing, and we are united in developing the department's working processes and our professional approach to urban development. You can read more about our local planning process on our website.

In daily life you will have a broad contact surface, both internally to the many professional employees in the administration and externally to developers, builders, and citizens. You will have the opportunity to follow and take responsibility for all parts of the planning process, from the initial strategic considerations and dialogue with builders and developers to the final local plan that sets the framework for our physical surroundings.

Profile for the professional coordinator

The professional coordinator has three main functions

  • Support the leader, among other things by preparing and participating in the initial meetings with developers as well as distributing and coordinating tasks in the local planning team.
  • Ensure that the local planning team works with common professional standards and consistent practice, and hold the weekly planning-technical meetings.
  • Ensure good dialogue with the other departments in Culture and Development about existing and changed internal and external consultations as well as procedures.

You are not necessarily executing all responsibilities under points 2 and 3, but you are responsible for ensuring that tasks are solved, and you have mandate to set the professional direction. The direction is typically determined based on dialogue and joint discussions at the planning-technical meetings and in dialogue with the manager.

You may very well have experience with formal or informal leadership, but the most important is that you want to take on the role. You will not have personnel or budget responsibilities.

The position as professional coordinator is expected to fill a large part of a 37-hour week, but you should expect to have some own tasks as project manager on your own plans on par with the department's other employees.

As part of the position you are offered to complete The Public Leadership Education, but in the first instance it will not be a requirement.

There are currently 13 employees in the department who work with local planning. The number varies depending on the tasks and initiatives that the City Council prioritizes.

You ideally have

  • a relevant education, e.g. land surveyor, engineer, architect or similar, as well as solid experience with local planning.
  • knowledge of planning act provisions and an understanding of the interaction between law and planning.
  • experience with local planning processes, including environmental assessment, citizen involvement, and dialogue with builders and developers.
  • a flair for structure, coordination, and systematic work.

It is an advantage if you

  • are used to working in Plandata.dk.
  • are familiar with IT systems such as InDesign and AutoCAD.
  • have knowledge of GIS.
  • have good knowledge of environmental assessment processes.

We would like you to be as a person and colleague

  • good at communicating and collaborating with both internal and external partners.
  • thrives in a changing daily life, where you as a coordinator must balance supporting the department's overall task solving and your own projects.
  • have the ability to make decisions based on dialogue and joint professional discussions.
  • have the ability and willingness to collaborate with and serve various stakeholders, including citizens, companies, authorities, and colleagues across the organization, so that holistic solutions and high-quality urban development are created.
  • be process- and solution-oriented.
  • be proactive and eager to contribute with new perspectives and ideas.
  • be able to work independently, in a structured and targeted manner.
  • have good written and oral communication skills.
  • be flexible and good at planning and prioritizing your work time.
