About the job

The Aarhus Cathedral Provostry is seeking an independent and professionally strong provost secretary with a solid understanding of finance, public administration and administration.

So - are you proficient with numbers, legislation and administrative processes?

Can you create an overview, see connections and translate complicated material into clear decision grounds?

And do you thrive in a daily life where you both work independently and have close contact with many different people?

So read on here ….

You will be the provost's closest administrative partner and will have a central role in the work with the provostry finances, case handling and service to the provostry council.

It is a position with responsibility, independence and professional challenges – in an organization where the work has meaning for the local churches and parishes.

You will become part of the Church of Denmark – a values-based institution with an important role in the local community – and your daily routine will take place in beautiful surroundings in the heart of Aarhus, close to the Cathedral and the theatre.

Your tasks

You will have a job where economy and public administration fill a great deal, and where you are also involved in ensuring that the provostry and provostry council work well in practice.

Finance and public administration

  • Work with budgets, accounts, bookkeeping and financial analyses.
  • Prepare the provostry council's handling of parish council budgets and accounts.
  • Prepare financial overviews, analyses and decision bases.
  • Handle administrative cases and work with interpretation and application of legislation and rules.

Close cooperation with the provost and the provostry council

  • Be the provost's administrative right hand with an overview of calendar, meetings, tasks and deadlines.
  • Prepare and coordinate meetings, prepare agendas and write minutes.
  • Ensure follow-up on decisions, case handling and filing.
  • Support the provostry council's work and ensure that case materials and decision basis are properly prepared.

Advice and collaboration

  • Advise and guide parish councils and priests on financial and administrative issues.
  • Maintain ongoing contact with parish councils, priests, authorities and other partners.

In other words, you must be able to dive into a spreadsheet, understand a set of rules and be willing to pick up the phone when a parish council needs help.

Who are you?

We imagine that you have a relevant higher education in economics, administration or public administration and preferably experience from a public organization.

Your education could for example be cand.oecon., cand.merc., cand.scient.adm., administration bachelor or another relevant economic or administrative education.

We especially emphasize that you

  • Have solid economic understanding and experience with budgets, accounts and financial management.
  • Are familiar with public administration and used to working with legislation, rules and administrative processes.
  • Are strong in Excel and can work with numbers, analyses and financial overviews.
  • Can express yourself clearly and precisely – both when you write decision briefs and minutes, and when you need to explain something complicated in a simple way.
  • Work independently, in a structured way and have an eye for both details and the bigger picture.
  • Are good at collaborating and meet other people with friendliness, patience and respect.

You do not need to know the Church of Denmark from the inside, but you must be eager to get to know it.

With us you get an independent position with the opportunity to use your professionalism and influence your own workday.

We offer a job with

  • Responsibility and independence. You get your own tasks and great influence on how you organize the work.
  • A close cooperation with the provost and the provostry council, where your professionalism and contributions matter.
  • Flexibility in everyday life, including the possibility of home office on some days by agreement.

  • A thorough introduction with courses, training and a mentorship program so you settle well into the tasks.
  • An workplace with an informal tone where there is room for professionalism, collaboration and good humor.
