About the job

Communicator with a focus on democracy and a talent for bringing people together

Do you want to strengthen the library's role as a democratic meeting place? Can you create engaging events and get people with different perspectives involved? And do you thrive in a diverse everyday life where meeting with people, close collaboration with colleagues, and a high degree of independence go hand in hand?

Then we have the job for you at the Hillerød Libraries. You will play a central role in developing and strengthening our work with democracy and citizenship both in daily operations at the library and in current and upcoming projects and collaborations with the local community in Hillerød. You will have room to initiate initiatives and responsibility to implement them together with colleagues, citizens, volunteers, and local partners.

About the position

Hillerød Libraries will be the meeting place for local dialogue in Hillerød and the place where more citizens take their first or next step into democracy. Where citizens meet new perspectives and are inspired to read, speak up, and participate in society. In our newly established position as an information broker with a focus on democracy and projects, your task will be to, in close collaboration with management and colleagues, support this development.

Approximately two-thirds of your time will be spent on creating and facilitating events, debates, and conveying knowledge and current societal perspectives based on literature and public conversations, both locally and nationally. The last third you will participate in the daily service in the study and adult library, where you bring your knowledge and interest in societal conditions and professional literature into play. The meeting with citizens also provides insight and inspiration for your development work.

We have secured funds for a democracy project focusing on multiple paths to democracy for citizens in the Municipality of Hillerød; especially the youth and citizens who do not normally participate in democratic events. If we receive approval for the project, you will be project manager and a central part of the effort.

Your base is the main library in central Hillerød, but the work will also take you out to the municipality's local and town communities and our partners.

You will be a part of the professional communities Volunteers, Communities and Democracy and Events. Here you, together with colleagues, translate the library's strategic direction into concrete actions. You will receive a clear mandate, a high degree of independence, and a close professional community.

Your tasks will include

  • plan and implement events with authors, politicians, and public debate participants
  • moderate debates, conversations, and other formats that make it easy to participate and encounter other perspectives
  • develop communities and volunteer initiatives based on citizens' engagement and resources
  • build and maintain collaborations with associations, cultural and educational institutions, and other local actors
  • contribute to the library's communication on social media
  • participate in the library's daily hosting and citizen service

About you

You have a relevant academic education and at least two years of relevant professional experience after completing your education. Your experience can come from culture, education, or association life, or from work with citizen involvement and societal communication. You can drive processes and translate ideas into activities that engage people.

In addition, we value that you

  • are focused on society, culture and citizen participation and want to create activities that are easy to participate in and appeal to a broad audience
  • enjoy presenting in front of an audience and are good at listening and bringing others into play
  • convey clearly and pertinently, both orally and in writing, and easily build relationships
  • work independently, take responsibility, and actively contribute to shared priorities
  • have good control of planning, finances and agreements and follow up tasks to the letter
  • are curious about the public library's possibilities and want to develop its role in society
  • are interested in engaging young people and citizens in vulnerable life situations
  • contribute with good humor and engagement and participate in the collective work.

About Hillerød Libraries

Hillerød Libraries are everyday open meeting places and an important part of the city's cultural and democratic infrastructure. Here people meet around literature, knowledge, experiences, learning and communities across backgrounds and life situations.

As the municipality's climate lighthouse and World Goals-certified library, we communicate the green transition and act as a role model for sustainable choices. We create opportunities together with a strong and broad network of associations, cultural actors, educational institutions and businesses.

You will have colleagues with high professional standards, great drive, and a desire to try new things. We give space for ideas, share responsibility, and emphasize hospitality and professional curiosity. And we adjust course when experience points to a better path.

Salary and terms of employment

The position is 37 hours per week with a start date of January 1, 2027.

The workplace is Hillerød Library, Christiansgade 1, 3400 Hillerød.

You will have 2-3 weekly shifts in citizen service, including 1-2 closing shifts until 18:00, as well as a shift every 4th Saturday from 10:00-15:00. In addition, you must, in periods, be prepared for event work 1-2 evenings per week.
