About the job

We are seeking a committed and structured researcher for a combined role as researcher and research coordinator in the Danish Blood Donor Study (DBDS). The position is targeted at a profile that can drive own research projects while also taking on a central coordinating role in research collaborations.

The workplace offers

The Blood Bank and Immunology at Aarhus University Hospital is the Region Central Denmark's specialty department in Clinical Immunology. The department has approximately 220 employees and carries out the production of blood components, transfusion medicine and transplantation immunology analyses, diagnostics and counseling, HIV and hepatitis testing, autoimmunity diagnostics and investigation of immunodeficiencies.

The Danish Blood Donor Study (DBDS) is a large national research project, based on one of the world’s largest biobanks with more than 180,000 participants and over 3 million plasma samples. The study combines laboratory data and registry information with collected phenotypic data, e.g., via questionnaires. Research covers a broad range of topics – including health outcomes, genetic factors and plasma biomarkers for various diseases.

The position provides a unique opportunity to contribute both to data analysis and laboratory work in large, population-based research projects. You will become a central part of our team and have the opportunity to apply your professional expertise in research that has the potential to improve public health.

Job description

The position combines independent research activity with a coordinating role in DBDS projects and collaborations in Region Central Denmark.

As a researcher, you will work on a number of DBDS projects focusing on neurodegenerative diseases, immunodeficiencies and body composition, including studies of infections and inflammatory processes. The work ranges from registry-based analyses to studies based on longitudinal blood samples and takes place both independently and in close collaboration with others.

As a research coordinator, you will play a central role in ensuring progress and coherence across DBDS projects in Region Central Denmark. You will serve as the point of contact for collaborations and ensure coordination and progress in projects across internal and external partners. You will also contribute significantly to work on ethical protocols and larger grant applications from idea development and prioritization to drafting of application text, budgeting and coordination up to submission.

We expect that you

  • have a PhD in biomedicine or a related field
  • have research experience in immunodeficiencies and body composition as well as experience with or interest in neurodegenerative diseases
  • have experience with laboratory-based research and biomarker analyses
  • have experience with project management and coordination of research projects and collaborations
  • have experience with development and design of research projects
  • have experience with inclusion of study participants and conducting population-based studies
  • have experience with preparing grant applications and ethical protocols
  • have insight into legal and data protection aspects of using biological material
  • work in a structured manner and be able to maintain an overview of several simultaneous projects
  • have strong collaboration skills and thrive in interdisciplinary environments
  • have strong communication skills in Danish and English
  • familiarity with DBDS and procedures in a blood bank is highly valued.

It is a prerequisite for employment that the above qualifications are met to a substantial extent.

The position is based at the Blood Bank and Immunology, Aarhus University Hospital, with Professor Christian Erikstrup as the incumbent chair of the department.

The position is fixed-term for 5 years with the possibility of extension and is in principle a full-time position. Start date 1 December 2026 or as agreed.

Salary and employment conditions

Salary and employment terms in accordance with the applicable collective agreement. The employment is conditional on a satisfactory criminal record certificate.

Application and contact

Applications should be written in Danish or English and must be received no later than 27 October 2026.

The recruitment interviews will be held shortly thereafter. Any questions about the post can be directed to the head of the research group, senior professor, chief physician Christian Erikstrup.

The position is, as a rule, a full-time position.

As Region Central Denmark continuously conducts savings and reorganizations, employees in redeployment who apply for the position will have priority.
