About the job

Would you like to

  • to become the leader of a dedicated team that values professional development, a good learning environment and a good working environment?
  • to be part of a leadership team together with a medical “partner” and the chief nurse in the outpatient area?
  • to be in an engaged leadership group with strong teamwork and psychological safety?

Then this is a position for you.

The department provides care and treatment of elective and acute urological patients with malignant and benign diseases within the kidneys, urinary tracts, bladder and prostate.

Urology is therefore a specialty with ample opportunities to develop competencies both in nursing and in medical treatment, as we handle the entire patient journey.

L1 ward is open around the clock, and has 20 beds on weekdays and 16 beds on weekends. 10 weeks a year the number of beds is reduced due to reduced surgical capacity.

The ward staff consist of nurses and social- and health care assistants. The department is staffed with a total of 31 full-time positions.

There is a duty planner attached to the ward, which in cooperation with the chief nurses handles work planning, ensuring vacation/normal development and supports finding good solutions when the duty plan is in operation and changes must be made.

The hospital of the future wards succeeds with good leadership and professionally engaged staff

We have an ambition to ensure high professional quality for our patients and a good workplace for our staff.

We think interdisciplinarity into everything we do – this applies to both clinical work and in the tactical and strategic management work.

The leadership structure in our ward consists of an interdisciplinary leadership consisting of a chief physician and you as the chief nurse. You share responsibility for operation and professional development in the ward area. You have personnel responsibility and are the nearest leader for the employees who have their largest share of employment in the ward area.

The clinical positions in the department are with both clinical functions in the ward and outpatient area, and therefore you will also have close collaboration with the chief nurse in the outpatient area regarding coordination of development initiatives, introduction and career paths for employees and several joint staff meetings/professional initiatives per year.

Nursing in a ward is complex and requires high professionalism, with constant development in relation to technology and treatment options. In L1 we have a high patient flow due to accelerated patient pathways and 3-4 acute patients daily distributed over 20 beds.

In recent years we have worked with initiatives to ensure good onboarding, a good learning environment, professional development and clear career paths for all staff, and this has helped strengthen the working community and retention in the ward.

We want good patient pathways and we succeed together

Each year we select special focus areas in the department. Here the weekly board meetings in the wards are the focal point for working with these efforts.

In L1 board meetings are a fixed culture, and there is great staff involvement. L1 this year especially focuses on interdisciplinary coordination and collaboration around the good patient pathway.

To ensure the complicated discharges that apply to the SAM:BO agreement and good transitions/discharges, the ward has several discharge coordinators.

Leadership has great focus in the department

We in the department have a strong focus on leadership and have an interdisciplinary and engaged leadership group, which in a binding leadership community works from common goals and values. All wards have interdisciplinary leadership consisting of a chief nurse and a person responsible physician.

We want to be a leadership group that functions as a team, works strategically, has high psychological safety and which staff experience as good role models.

We focus on leadership development at OUH, and in 2026 work with various leadership themes in a shared leadership program.

You will experience having leadership colleagues who dare to challenge you, and who are also attentive to you, as it is important for us that you have a good working environment.

All chief nurses are supported by deputies and clinical nursing specialists, who help secure development in the department across wards.

Urinary Surgery Department is a department with a total of 3 areas – ward, operation and outpatient area. There are about 170 staff in the department. There is a strong focus on professional development to ensure professional patient pathways, and at the same time it is a specialty with a fair amount of research and thus its own research unit.

In the department we work across wards and professional groups with improvement and patient safety work, learning environment and working environment.

Task solving and well-being go hand in hand, and we are a department where most people know each other, and where staff involvement is prioritized because we want a department with high well-being and a good working environment. In the department several staff are involved in processes towards New OUH.

We expect that you

  • have management experience, and desire or have relevant further education.
  • have clinical experience as a nurse.
  • can and dare to lead the development the department is in, and thus help ensure the frameworks needed to create high professionalism and patient satisfaction, good working environment and continued retention of staff.
