Head of Data and BI at Vejle Municipality

Vejle Municipality is seeking a leader who can head our shared BI and data area and develop a strong team of specialists. You will be responsible for an area of significance for the entire municipality, from the technical architecture and data quality to the solutions that will enable leaders and departments to make better decisions.

About the position

Data and BI are the municipality's central competence center for data and decision support. We work with some of the municipality's most valuable assets: data about citizens, children, young people, the elderly, employees and municipal initiatives, which on a daily basis form the basis for decisions about welfare and services. Quality, security, accountability and trust are therefore fundamental in everything we do.

In Vejle Municipality, we have high ambitions for how data can create value. Data should make us wiser about operations, qualify decisions, and contribute to better solutions for citizens and the organization, and we are seeking a leader who will take responsibility for that ambition.

Your tasks will include

• Lead and develop a team of about 6 specialists and bring the employees' various areas of expertise into play in the best possible way.
• Set the direction for development and operation of the municipality's shared data platform and data models.
• Ensure data quality, security and coherence in the municipality's management information and decision support.
• Be a professional sparring partner and understand the consequences of technical and architectural choices.
• Qualify the organization's needs and set the direction for the solutions.
• Create strong collaborations with business areas, analytics environments, system owners and external suppliers.

We are looking for

You have a relevant advanced degree and solid experience from the data, BI or digitization field. You do not need to know our entire technical setup from day one, but you must be able to understand the architecture, ask the right questions and be a credible sparring partner for the specialists. We expect that you can recognize most of the following:

• You can lead autonomous specialists through clear direction, prioritization and trust.
• You have a solid understanding of data architecture, data models and BI solutions, preferably with experience from cloud platforms such as Microsoft Fabric.
• You can connect technical possibilities with the organization's needs and explain the consequences of different choices.
• You are ambitious on behalf of the data domain and motivated to develop solutions that work in practice.
• You are curious about data, technology, artificial intelligence and new possibilities and can assess when they are relevant to bring into play.
• You build trust across and can navigate in a large, politically led organization.
• You can create structure, make decisions and follow up on cross-cutting tasks and dependencies.

Leading strong professional communities

Employees in Data and BI are highly specialized and autonomous. You do not need to have all the answers, but you should be able to join in the professional discussions, create clear frameworks and priorities, and make decisions when needed.

You should be curious about each employee's professional skills and motivation and create opportunities for employees to develop and bring their competencies into play, both individually and as a team. At the same time, you should strengthen the team's focus on users and the value the solutions must create. This requires you to bridge technical specialists, analysts, managers and business areas.

You will have a clear leadership space, but you will not be alone. You report to the head of staff and will receive close sparring on priorities, difficult choices and your development as a leader. You will also become part of a small leadership group with a direct and informal tone and a shared ambition to create better alignment between data, analysis and the organization’s needs.
