About the job

Are you passionate about working with girls from marginalized housing areas and helping them organize themselves into strong and supportive communities? And are you willing to be part of when they create local activities, raise their voices and demand change? Then you are the one we need!

As an intern in the SheRise project you will help coordinate our actions around Aarhus, including in Viby, the Vandtårnsområdet and Frydenlund. Here we support girls aged 13–22 in organizing themselves into strong communities, where they can strengthen their relationships with other girls and actively use the communities to seek support and guidance, so they together can create change and better conditions for themselves and other young people. The project work is anchored in strong partnerships including housing social holistic plans, local youth clubs, schools, etc.

As an intern you will support the girls' communities and facilitate activities in one or more of the areas mentioned. You will be responsible for facilitating meetings and developing workshops and teaching programs that create democratic spaces where young people can dream, create change and initiate activities – by young people, for young people. We work with themes such as anti-discrimination, female friendships, empowerment, rights and diverse communities that make the girls local actors and co-creators.

Become part of a dedicated and motivated team

You will join the team in the national youth program, where you will receive professional input through peer coaching, professional days and development activities. The team consists of 8 employees distributed in Aarhus, Odense and Copenhagen – including a team leader, project and program managers, and project staff.

With us you will be part of a dynamic and engaged team where collaboration and sparring is a natural part of everyday life. We prioritise learning highly – as an intern you will get a supervisor who continuously provides professional sparring, talks with you about well-being and helps set and achieve your learning goals. You will have the opportunity to put your own mark on projects, but you are never alone – we lift in unison.

As an intern we expect that you

  • Are passionate about working with young people and for young people to have a voice and influence on their own lives.
  • Are willing to teach and/or facilitate processes with young people.
  • Are good at building relationships and ready to meet young people with curiosity and openness. A large part of our work is based on informal relationships with the young people, where you discuss life’s small and big dilemmas.
  • Possibly have professional knowledge about democratic participation, local democracy, anti-discrimination or the challenges and opportunities for young girls in marginalized areas.
  • Are motivated by working with volunteers.
  • Are prepared to continuously handle administrative tasks and support internal coordination.
  • Are currently pursuing a relevant higher education degree (e.g., sociology, pedagogy, anthropology, education science or similar).

We offer you

  • An unpaid internship of approximately 25 hours per week (the exact hours are agreed and aligned with the study rules).
  • An internship period from mid-January to end of June (with flexibility).
  • Mutually flexible working hours. As we work with youths and volunteers, we expect you to be flexible regarding evening and weekend work. In return, we are also flexible so you can take courses alongside and take time off.

In Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke we believe in diversity and equal opportunities for all. We therefore encourage everyone – regardless of gender as well as cultural, ethnic, religious or political background – to apply for the position, as we value a diverse staff.
