Internship and project collaboration at Research and Development (R&D) at AAK

Generally, in Research and Development (R&D) we have three different types of students, primarily from the Diploma and Master of Engineering programs:

• Interns
• Bachelor students
• Master's students

Interns

Interns in R&D are almost exclusively students on the diploma engineer program in Chemistry or Biotechnology. In the 5th semester of these programs, the students must undertake an Engineering internship, which at AAK takes place in pairs of two students. These two students are followed through an internship program, where they are attached to a specific development project, but at the same time they also get a general insight into AAK and the development work here.

The students are assigned an internship supervisor, who helps the students in their daily work. In addition, a workstation with an accompanying computer is allocated.

Bachelor students

Bachelor students in R&D also come from either Chemistry or Biotechnology, though it is possible to write their bachelor project both as diploma engineer students and as Civil engineer students. Normally bachelor students have applied to write together in pairs of two, which is also what we recommend. It is however possible to write alone, but we do not take groups of three or more, as a setup with three in a group does not fit AAK's projects.

As a bachelor student you are welcome to contribute input on what you would like to work with, but usually R&D has a small handful of different projects that are realistically possible to work on. All are development projects that can be directly translated into value for AAK. The students are attached to a bachelor supervisor, who helps with direction and management of the project, as well as the daily work. In addition, a workstation with an accompanying computer is allocated.

Master's students

Master2; s students in R&D come from the civil engineering program in chemistry and biotechnology. Contrary to interns and bachelor students in R&D, master's students work solo rather than in pairs. The student is attached to a development project, where you contribute to the progress and management of the project, which also means there is an expectation that you can work independently.

As a master's student at AU, there is initially planned one semester of work on the master2;s, but with the possibility to use 1.5-2 semesters instead. From AAK's side, we would like a master's study to last 1.5-2 semesters, as experience shows that it is possible to carry out a more in-depth and thorough project within this timeframe. The student is attached to a special supervisor, who helps with sparring and management of the project, as well as the daily work.

In addition, a workstation with an accompanying computer is allocated.
