Introductory position in Internal Medicine: Cardiology at Herlev and Gentofte Hospital

At the Department of Cardiac Diseases, Herlev Hospital, there is an introductory position available from February 1, 2027 and 3 introductory positions available from March 1, 2027.

The Department of Cardiac Diseases, Herlev Hospital, is a dynamic cardiology department with highly specialized diagnostics and treatment, placing great emphasis on high professional quality and the education of junior doctors.

The department handles diagnostic work-up and treatment of cardiology patients with common cardiology issues and in addition performs highly specialized non-invasive diagnostics (Cardiac CT, Cardiac MRI, Loop, 3D echo for patients in cancer treatment) and treatment of patients with endocarditis.

As an introductory physician you have the opportunity to develop skills in both broad internal medicine and general cardiology, as well as to explore various subspecialties (endocarditis, lipid, inherited, thrombosis, GUCH).

The department places a high emphasis on conference culture and there is a strong focus on high professional quality and the education of junior doctors.

As an introductory physician you will join a large on-call team that primarily handles on-call duties, ward rounds, DC conversion of admitted patients and, if desired, possibly a junior resident outpatient clinic.

Herlev Hospital has a large Emergency Department, where as a cardiology on-call you assess patients referred to the cardiology region.

In the Emergency Department, the on-call clinician is supported by a cardiology back-up on call, who is a more experienced junior doctor with echo competencies. In addition, there is a cardiology specialist in the house around the clock, providing good opportunities for sparring and feedback, also during shifts.

There is an opportunity for training in echocardiography with a view to running an echo outpatient clinic under the supervision of a specialist, as well as to take on the role of supervising cardiologist in the hospital. There is also an opportunity for training in 3D echocardiography for control-TTE of patients undergoing cancer treatment.

The department is very research-active with good opportunities for active participation, including the start of a PhD program.

Employment terms

The position is 37 hours per week and starts on February 1, 2027 or March 1, 2027.

You will be employed under the agreement for junior doctors, concluded between Young Doctors and Regionernes Lønnings- og Takstnævn. On-call at the service location is organized as a 2-shift service.
