Introduction position in internal medicine: gastroenterology and hepatology

We are seeking an introductory physician to the Department of Medical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Aalborg University Hospital, with commencement on 1 December 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a 12-month training program.

About the department

The department has four main focus areas: chronic inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatic diseases, chronic liver disease and short bowel syndrome. We provide highly specialized functions within these areas and cooperate closely with a number of clinical departments on cross-cutting functions.

The department consists of inpatient ward, day ward, outpatient clinic, endoscopy unit and research unit. As an introduction doctor you will therefore have the opportunity to see, treat and follow both highly specialized gastroenterology and hepatology patients and broadly internal medicine patients.

We work in a coordinated manner towards good, cohesive patient pathways and place great emphasis on multidisciplinary collaboration with the nursing staff.

Tasks and shifts

You participate in the department's daily operations with

• Inpatient rounds in the ward
• Ambulatory function, including your own patient pathways under supervision
• Participation in the department's on-call function
• Supervision and acute assessments in collaboration with the department's other physicians

Depending on interest and department needs you may be attached to one of our specialties for a period of the employment.

Education and supervision

We prioritise guidance and security in daily life. You will receive

• A fixed primary supervisor and an individual training program according to the objective description for the introduction training in internal medicine: gastroenterology and hepatology
• Daily morning conference and weekly conferences, including radiology and specialty area conferences
• Opportunity to be introduced to endoscopy, ultrasound and invasive procedures
• Opportunity to participate in the department's research

The department has pre- and postgraduate educational obligations. You participate in clinical teaching of junior doctors, medical students and other professional groups.

• Approved clinical basic training and independent work at commencement
• Interest in internal medicine and medical gastroenterology and hepatology
• Good collaboration skills and desire for multidisciplinary collaboration
• Commitment to own learning and willingness to teach others

Previous experience from a medical department is advantageous but not required.
