Do you want to use your legal expertise to advise on people, organization and the framework for the Church of Denmark's work?

In the Diocese of Aarhus we are seeking a lawyer who thrives on professional variety. One day you will advise on a personnel matter, and the next you might work on a construction case, or help a parish council with the legal framework for a new collaboration.

With us you become part of an organization where the law makes a tangible difference. You will advise the bishop, cathedral deans, priests, parish councils and colleagues on questions that matter for the Church of Denmark’s daily work.

Your tasks

You will have a versatile position where the tasks are roughly evenly split between HR and employment law on the one hand and general church law, construction cases and planning cases on the other.

Your tasks will include, among others

• advice and sparring on HR, terms of employment and specific personnel cases concerning priests and church officials,
• case processing and coordination of priest appointments as well as handling cases including maternity leave, leave of absence, holidays and sickness absence,
• contributing to the development of the diocese's HR work, including procedures, guidelines and initiatives within well-being and occupational health and safety,
• legal advice on church-law questions, including the tasks, competencies and cooperation of parish councils and provost committees,
• handling of building and planning cases as well as cases concerning service housing,
• handling of administrative-law cases, including public access to information, and preparation of decisions, consultation responses and legal assessments.

You will have independent responsibility for your own cases and the opportunity to influence how tasks are solved. We value professional sparring and finding solutions that are both legally sound and practical.

About you

You are trained as cand.jur. or cand.merc.jur. and you want to work with both HR, employment law and the legal questions related to the Church of Denmark’s organization and tasks.

• work independently and in a structured way and see your tasks through to the end,
• communicate clearly and understandably, both verbally and in writing,
• thrive in an advisory role, listen and build good collaborative relationships,
• contribute to professional sparring and share your knowledge with colleagues.

Experience from a public authority or with HR and employment law is an advantage but not a prerequisite. You do not need prior knowledge of church law or the Church of Denmark’s organization. The most important is that you have a solid legal foundation and a desire to learn.

The practical

The position is 37 hours per week with the start on 1 January 2027.

The employment is covered by the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
