Clinical or External Lecturer for the Role of Postgraduate Clinical Lecturer in Clinical Physiology and Nuclear Medicine for the Continuing Education Region North

Institute of Clinical Medicine (IKM), the Health Sciences Faculty at Aarhus University, in collaboration with the North region of Postgraduate Education, invites applications for a clinical or external lecturer to hold the position of post-graduate clinical lecturer in Clinical Physiology and Nuclear Medicine as of 1 February 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is fixed-term for 5 years.

Institute of Clinical Medicine

As a clinical or external lecturer at the Institute of Clinical Medicine you will be part of what is likely the largest health sciences research institute in Denmark. The clinical research covers all medical specialties and takes place in interaction with the university hospital and regional hospitals in the Central Denmark Region. At the institute we have approximately 670 scientific staff, 500 PhD students and 160 technical/administrative staff working across disciplines. Institute of Clinical Medicine has since 1 October 2020 supported medical postgraduate training in the Videreuddannelsesregion Nord by in partnership with the Videreuddannelsesregionen and Aalborg University to cover the postgraduate Pedagogical Developments Function (PUF). The institute employs the approximately 45 postgraduate clinical and external lecturers distributed across the Videreuddannelsesregion Nord. In due course, about 1/3 of the postgraduate clinical and external lecturers will be affiliated with Aalborg University according to the PUF agreement concluded in January 2020.

Your tasks

Clinical Lecturer

As a clinical lecturer in Clinical Physiology and Nuclear Medicine you will mainly have an advisory, coordinating and developing function to ensure and develop clinical postgraduate education in Videreuddannelsesregion Nord primarily within the specialty.

Your tasks will primarily consist of

• Teaching and dissemination
• Management, advisory and administrative tasks
• Research and development
• Participation in assessment committees

External Lecturer

As an external lecturer in Clinical Physiology and Nuclear Medicine you will mainly have an advisory, coordinating and developing function to ensure and develop clinical postgraduate education in Videreuddannelsesregion Nord primarily within the specialty.

Your tasks will primarily consist of

• Teaching and dissemination
• Management, advisory and administrative tasks
• Research and development

You report, in your employment as external or clinical lecturer, to the head lecturer for post-graduate medical competence development at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, Aarhus University, and to the secretary of the Postgraduate Education Secretariat in Videreuddannelsesregion Nord.

Your competencies

• Clinical Lecturer:

You have a position as a specialist physician in Videreuddannelsesregion Nord and have research qualifications, e.g. PhD or doctoral degree.

To be considered qualified as a clinical lecturer, you must meet these professional criteria.

• External Lecturer:

You have a position as a specialist physician in Videreuddannelsesregion Nord and you have solid practical experience within the department's field.

To be considered qualified as an external lecturer, you must meet these professional criteria.

Common for both positions

You should be willing to teach in medical postgraduate education and be able to build trusting relationships with participants, colleagues and collaborators. As an instructor you convey the latest and relevant knowledge in an engaging, clear and understandable manner. As a supervisor you are competent, inspiring and supportive. As a person you are able to operate within the political/administrative system. You can balance many different considerations and create forward movement and development. As a person you are dedicated and possess good communication skills. We expect you to speak and write fluent English.

You have teaching experience and experience with leadership and administration of medical postgraduate education, e.g. educational coordinating physician (UKO), educational supervisor (UAO), educational coordinating junior doctor (UKYL), inspector or similar. In addition you have experience with development of courses and workshops, for example as course leader or teacher.

You have formal education in medical pedagogy and leadership of medical education. Alternatively you can obtain this within the first few years. Experience with research and development in medical postgraduate education will be an advantage.

Conditions of employment for the clinical lecturer

• It is a condition that the person is a specialist in the relevant field and it is normally expected that research will be conducted.

Conditions of employment for an external lecturer

• Employment as an external lecturer requires qualifications at master level.
• Furthermore, employment as an external lecturer requires either relevant high-level practical experience not gained through a university scientific appointment, or employment in a scientific full-time position at another university.
• An external lecturer, employed on the basis of relevant practical experience, must have thorough, current knowledge of the subject/area’s applications. This is obtained through employment within the field.

Remuneration

As a clinical lecturer, the appointment and remuneration follow the Circular on the agreement on clinical lecturers at universities . A clinical lecturer is paid relatively according to the number of contact hours contracted. A clinical lecturer, for example, employed to handle 60 contact hours per year and other tasks up to 200 hours per year, is paid an annual remuneration of DKK 95,200 per year (level as of 31 March 2012). The remuneration is paid monthly in arrears in 1/12. The amount is pensionable with 17.1%. Special holiday allowance of 1.5% is provided.

As an external lecturer, employment and remuneration follow the Circular on the agreement on external lecturers at universities . Hourly rate per hour worked is 247.01 DKK in base amount (level as of 31 March 2012). The amount is paid during the semester, typically monthly in arrears with 1/5, with no remuneration paid in July and August.
