About the job
Do you have a broad legal toolkit, and do you thrive in navigating between law, business, and politics? Are you motivated by having direct influence close to the executive and management—and by using your professional expertise in an organization where green transition and complex legal frameworks go hand in hand? Then Energnist has the role for you!
Legal key player in a green and politically complex organization
For our client Energnist A/S, we are seeking an experienced and versatile Legal Counsel who can function as the company’s trusted legal backbone. Energnist is a large business with a small organization behind it—and as the sole lawyer you will play a central role close to the executive team with significant influence and responsibility.
This is the role for you if you are motivated by balancing legal considerations with business goals. You can dive into the details of contracts and compliance, while translating complex legal issues into clear, actionable advice for management, employees and external partners.
We are looking for a legal all-rounder who can span a wide range—and who is passionate about applying their expertise in a company where green transition, energy policy and municipal backing go hand in hand.
About the job
As Legal Counsel you will play a central role in ensuring Energnist navigates safely within a regulated and politically influenced landscape. You will serve as a legal sparring partner for the executive team and the business, taking on both strategic and operational tasks.
Examples of tasks
- Legal advisory to management and business across the group
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating incoming and outgoing contracts
- Advice on corporate law, compliance and GDPR
- Handling procurement-law issues and EU-law frameworks
- Follow-up on energy policy and municipal political matters (the company is owned by 16 municipalities)
- Legal support for strategic projects
- Handling personnel matters and advice in employment law
- Collaboration with external lawyers in complex and specialized cases
The role requires you to make legal decisions independently and stand by your assessments. At the same time you will be part of a small team where collaboration and the ability to build relationships are crucial.
What does it take to succeed?
You will succeed in the role if you
- Can balance legal considerations with business goals
- Convey complex legal issues clearly and understandably
- Thrive in taking responsibility and making decisions independently
- Can collaborate effectively and constructively in a high-contact environment with management and colleagues
- Have high integrity and a strong sense of your role as trusted adviser
- Can build relationships and communicate with management, employees, municipal owners and authorities
Your background
You have a cand.jur. or cand.merc.jur. degree and about 5 years of experience as a lawyer. Your experience is preferably from a utility company, the energy sector or another regulated industry with a clear political agenda—or from a company where you have worked closely with the executive team or the board. You have a broad legal toolkit with solid experience in contract law, corporate law, compliance, GDPR, procurement law and EU law.
It would be advantageous if you have insight into energy policy, the utilities sector, or municipal politics, and you have an interest in sustainability, green transition and the political frameworks shaping the energy sector.
