About the job
Do you want to inspire children and young people to explore nature – and turn their curiosity into experiences, insights and learning?
Haderslev Youth School (Ungdomsskole) is seeking a nature guide for Naturskolen. We are looking for you who can make nature come alive and feel present, and who want to develop and implement hands-on activities in close collaboration with teachers and pedagogues. With us, nature is not merely the frame for a trip, but a place where children and young people get the opportunity to sense, experience, try out and learn.
About Naturskolen
Naturskolen has existed in Haderslev Municipality since 1988 and has been affiliated with Haderslev Youth School since 2012. Naturskolen is run in collaboration with the Danish Nature Agency (Naturstyrelsen) and primarily targets the municipality’s public schools and day-care institutions. In addition, nature activities are part of the youth school’s leisure offerings.
Our main task is to provide children and students with exciting, experiential and educational experiences in and with nature. The programs often take their starting point in the concrete wishes and themes of the schools and day-care institutions and support both teaching and daily pedagogical work.
Naturskolen is where there are children who need to go out into nature. Therefore, work takes place both at Naturskolen and in the local areas of schools and day-care institutions. We want to make it easier for teachers and pedagogues to use nearby nature as an experiential and learning space in everyday life.
Our tasks
As a nature guide you translate your knowledge and enthusiasm into activities where children and young people themselves investigate, test and participate. You will solve the tasks in close collaboration with Naturskolen’s other staff, but must also be able to plan and carry out trips on your own. Your duties will include, among others:
- Plan, implement and evaluate nature programs for classes and day-care institutions in collaboration with teachers and pedagogues.
- Adapt content and activities to the participants’ age, prerequisites and learning goals, so everyone has the opportunity to participate.
- Communicate about the animals and plants in nature and the connections in nature through investigations, storytelling and practical experiences.
- Carry out trips and activities in different nature and cultural environments in the municipality – e.g. in Dyrehaven, along the coast at Årøsund, at Slivsøen, and at the standing stones in Vedsted.
- Include activities such as insect investigations, fishing trips and food over the campfire when it supports the program’s purpose.
- Inspire and guide teachers and pedagogues in using nearby nature and carry out hands-on courses for individual staff members or groups of staff.
- Contribute to the development of Naturskolen’s offerings and, after agreement, participate in the youth school’s leisure activities.
- Take care of the practical preparation, handling of equipment and coordination to make the activities work in everyday life.
We are looking for someone who
- has a relevant education, e.g. as a nature guide, teacher, pedagogue or in the nature and outdoor sector – preferably combined with experience in nature interpretation
- has solid natural science knowledge and can convey it in a lively, understandable and relatable way for children and young people
- can create safe frames and meet different groups of children with clarity, curiosity and attention to each participant’s possibilities
- is outgoing and welcoming and has good collaboration skills
- wants to collaborate with teachers and pedagogues about the connection between nature experiences and work back in the classroom or institution
- works independently and in a structured way while also actively contributing to joint planning and development
- thrives with a daily life outdoors across all seasons and with both communication, preparation and practical tasks
- has a sense of safety and responsible conduct in nature and can plan activities with respect for both participants and surroundings
- has a driving license for passenger car. A trailer license is an advantage but not a requirement.
We offer
- a meaningful job where you give children and young people experiences with nature and a desire to go exploring on their own
- a varied daily life with nature as the workplace and activities in different places in the municipality
- opportunity to shape and develop nature programs in collaboration with Naturskolen’s colleagues, schools and day-care institutions
- a workplace affiliated with Haderslev Youth School and collaboration with Naturstyrelsen
- a hands-on approach where professional knowledge, sensory experiences and participants’ own investigations go hand in hand.
Salary and terms of employment
The position is full-time, 37 hours per week, with start on January 1, 2027.
The position requires a driving license, as transporting the pupils is a significant part of the job.
The position will be paid in accordance with the current agreement between KL and the relevant professional organization. The expected starting salary is in the range of DKK 38,500 – 42,000 plus pension, with negotiation of additional allowances depending on seniority. The final placement within the range is based on objective criteria such as relevant education and documented professional experience.
