Nurses for a surgical ward, 37 hours in a two-shift system and 4 weekends over 12 weeks.

We are seeking 2 nurses for the University Center for Spine Surgery, UCR, for a permanent position and a 37-hour temporary position. Please indicate in your application which position you wish to apply for. The positions are to be filled by 01.12.2026 or as agreed.

About Us: University Center for Spine Surgery (colloquially: the Back Center) is a highly specialized Neurological and Orthopedic surgical ward for patients with spinal diseases, which falls under the Neurosurgical Department.

We receive patients from across the Region of Southern Denmark. We handle everything from routine operations with 24-hour inpatient stay to more complex traumas or larger planned spine surgeries, including for example scoliosis surgery in children down to 12 years old. We thus have a high flow which requires close sparring with physiotherapists, surgeons, discharge coordinators and other colleagues.

From autumn 2026, the Back Center will become one unit with our sister department U1, as preparation for the new OUH. This means that you will also learn about cranial surgery patients. You will still primarily be a spine surgery nurse. We have a close collaboration with our outpatient clinic, where we prepare our patients for surgery as well as manage outpatient pathways with conservative treatments with a brace/neck collar. In time you will have the opportunity to take shifts in the outpatient clinic alternately with shifts in the inpatient ward.

The culture: At the Back Center we are a mix of older and younger colleagues who provide a strong professional and social community. The staff group is a good mix of former students, experienced with over 20 years in the field, newly graduated and those with experience from other specialties.

We team up in pairs and use timeout so we can ensure everyone is included. We use HosInfo, where you can request your shift plan 12 weeks at a time with 4 weekends you plan yourself. At Christmas and New Year we use a points system for distributing shifts. Here, evening and night shifts on 24/12 or 31/12 will only need to be covered once in 4 years, sometimes less.

We also regularly meet outside work for pleasant social activities, which we take turns arranging.

Your first time as a new employee : You do not need to have experience in a surgical specialty. We therefore ensure individualized thorough and qualified training in the specialty, with an 8-week introductory program outside of the norm. The program includes, among other things, professional conversations with our Clinical Nurse Specialist and an intro course in the spine surgical specialty. In addition, all new employees are paired with an experienced colleague as a mentor.

Salary and employment terms

The Region is obliged to inform you of the starting salary for the position. You will be informed of base pay, centrally set allowances, and pension in Agreement for Non-Management staff in the Health Collective's area 32.17.1 - salary as of 1.4.2026

In addition to the starting salary, the pay may include any negotiated allowances depending on the position, your experience and qualifications.
