Pedagogical assistant / teaching assistant for Center Department / Holistic Offer at Vester Mariendal School

The center department's holistic offering at Vester Mariendal School has a vacant pedagogical assistant/pedagogical aide position for 37 hours.

We are seeking a pedagogical assistant /pedagogical aide who

• Has great interest, curiosity and abilities to work with children with severe multiple disabilities, including children with epilepsy and an age-appropriate functional level of 0-1½ years.
• Knowledge of ASC is a major strength (alternative and augmentative communication), including signs for speech and the boardmakers system.
• Can respond clearly and convincingly within our framework, which is characterized by pupil-tailored structure and predictability.
• Can create positive, close relationships with children with special needs
• Can work in multidisciplinary teams and contribute to an open and professional dialogue with partners, including parents
• Can perform care and nursing tasks professionally. Preferably experience with transfers.
• You will be introduced to tube feeding and guided in observation and response guidance around epileptic seizures.
• You will participate in continuing education in Neuro-pedagogy, as well as ongoing pedagogical sparring.

Vester Mariendal School's center department houses 110 students distributed across 4 departments, as well as 70 colleagues. The holistic offering includes 14 students all with severe disabilities. The students are characterized by having severe extensive disabilities and have severely reduced cognitive, linguistic, motor and social competencies. Several students also have physical handicaps. The student group has very diverse and complex challenges and needs. There is a need for differentiated and specially arranged instruction at individual, group, and class level.

The everyday life is characterized by creating good relationships, where the adult is the caring driving force that can be governing, guiding and instructing. This creates a safe environment in which students can develop within a clear structure.

In daily practice, the starting point is a resource- and relationship-oriented approach with a focus on how the individual student is best supported and develops, and there is work to set realistic targets for the student's learning, well-being and development. Work is done with special education student plans. These are evaluated several times a year with the involvement of parents.

In the next 1½ years we will have a special focus on Neuro-pedagogy and related professional sparring in the form of continuing education programs in collaboration with UCN.

The working hours are distributed between school and DUS in the period 6.30-16.30. There is of course also working time on school-free weekdays in DUS.
