About the job
Do you want to help integrate water as an active part of future cities and landscapes? And are you motivated to develop robust, sustainable and realizable solutions in the early project phases, where the most important choices are made? Then perhaps you are the one we are looking for. Our project portfolio is growing, and we are seeking a water planner who can set the direction for future rainwater management and translate complex challenges into holistic solutions in close collaboration with customers, authorities and colleagues across disciplines.
Create solutions for a better future
We are looking for a water planner who will strengthen our work with strategic rainwater management, climate adaptation and water disposition in the early phases of projects. You must be able to think in holistic terms, see opportunities across technology, urban development, nature, landscape and regulatory requirements – and have a desire to challenge the traditional drainage principles when better solutions call for new thinking.
You will become part of our Department of Water and Climate Adaptation with 170 skilled and engaged colleagues distributed across offices nationwide. Here you will have access to a strong professional community where we share knowledge, spar with each other and develop solutions together with experts in, among others, hydraulics, wastewater, urban development, nature, landscape and environment.
What you will influence
You are involved before the solution is finalized. Your advice can influence how water is integrated into urban development, climate adaptation, nature, landscape and operation – and thus how future cities will be more robust to a changing climate.
Your responsibility
As a water planner you help shape the solutions long before they become facilities. You create an overview, set direction and contribute to the decision basis that makes it possible to handle rainwater in a way that both supports urban development, climate adaptation, environmental considerations and reliable operating solutions.
Your primary tasks will be
- Develop strategic plans such as climate adaptation plans, hydraulic master plans and holistic plans for rainwater management
- Develop water disposition plans focusing on water from all sides – rainwater, near-surface groundwater, rivers and recipients
- Develop rainwater management plans in connection with building developments and urban development projects
- Translate analyses, framework conditions and authorities' requirements into robust, sustainable and feasible solutions
- Facilitate cross-disciplinary collaboration among hydraulicians, landscape architects, biologists, planners, authority specialists and project managers
- Engage in dialogue with municipalities, utilities, clients and other stakeholders about direction, opportunities and priorities
Your profile
You have a strong interest in water planning, climate adaptation and sustainable urban development. You thrive in the early phases where there are many considerations, few fixed answers and a need for both professional depth, overview and creativity. You can bring different disciplines together toward a common direction and translate complex frameworks into clear advice and concrete decision bases.
You don’t need to know it all from day one. The most important thing is that you have experience with water, rainwater or wastewater, can think across disciplines and want to develop your professional skills together with capable colleagues.
We expect that you
- Have experience with water planning, rainwater management or climate adaptation in the early project phases – from municipality, utility, client or consultant
- Can think strategically and holistically and see water as a resource that can create added value in cities and landscapes
- Understand municipal processes, planning hierarchy and the interaction between wastewater plans, local plans, building developments and concrete projects
- Have knowledge of environmental legislation and framework conditions for rain and wastewater
- Communicate clearly and engagingly – both in writing and orally – and thrive on advising, facilitating and collaborating across disciplines.
- Have experience with and interest in project management
Therefore, why choose us
- You will have influence on projects that shape the future handling of water in cities and landscapes.
- You will become part of a strong interdisciplinary environment where water planning is linked with hydraulics, urban development, nature, landscape and environment.
- You will have the opportunity to work visionary and holistic with sustainable solutions in the early project phases.
We offer a job with high professionalism, great responsibility and the chance to influence some of the solutions that shape future management of water in cities and landscapes. You will become part of an open and informal working environment where we emphasize engagement, integrity, collaboration and professional sparring – and where good ideas can grow when we develop them together.
At COWI we focus on flexibility and on ensuring that work life and everyday life can fit together. Our way of working provides the option to work from home when tasks permit. In addition, we offer good employment conditions, health insurance, canteen scheme, coffee and fruit scheme, massage scheme, staff association and access to a number of corporate agreements.
