About the job

Postdoctoral Fellowship in Experimental Quantum Matter Quantum Matter Lab, Niels Bohr Institute Faculty of SCIENCE University of Copenhagen The Quantum Matter Lab at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, invites applicants for a postdoctoral fellowship to investigate topologically protected synthetic matter in 1D and 2D arrays of semiconductor-superconductor Josephson junctions formed in a variety of lattices.

The project aims to explore novel states and dynamics of emergent quantum states, including topological matter and flat bands. The position is open from 1 February 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The project

The work is at the border of quantum simulation and quantum matter and takes advantage of novel epitaxial hybrid materials. Candidates should have a PhD in condensed matter experimental physics, mesoscopic electron transport, or experimental solid-state quantum information science. The project combines nanofabrication, low-temperature measurements using a cryofree dilution refrigerator, low-noise and high frequency electrical measurement techniques, data analysis, and close collaboration with theoretical physicists. Scientific writing and communication will be in English.

Inquiries about the position can be made to Associate Professor Saulius Vaitiekėnas ( [email protected] ).

Description of the scientific environment

The Quantum Matter Lab at the Niels Bohr Institute is a research group focused on experimental solid-state physics, quantum nanoelectronics, and condensed matter device physics. The group provides a vibrant scientific environment for cutting-edge experimental research, with close interactions with theorists and potential collaborations with industry.

Our group is part of Condensed Matter Physics at the Niels Bohr Institute, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen. We are based in Copenhagen and offer creative, stimulating working conditions within a dynamic, international research environment.

The University and the group wish our staff to reflect on the diversity of society and thus welcome applications from all qualified candidates.

Terms of employment

The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week. The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 2 years, with a possibility of extending the contract further.
