Preventive Child and Youth Counselor for the reception at the Center for Child and Youth Counseling

Our good colleague has applied for another position and has secured their dream role and at the same time we are expanding the team of preventive child and youth advisors. Therefore we are seeking two new colleagues in our reception. Both positions are 37 hours per week with start 1 January 2027.

In Ballerup Municipality we are focused on meeting citizens and partners in a proper and qualified manner. We want to get off to a good and timely start in our collaborations, and therefore we are looking for a colleague who, together with us in the reception, will handle the first contact with citizens and partners.

In the reception we have 16 child and youth advisors. We are four who primarily work with on-call tasks and (soon) 12 who work preventively in schools and in day-care. As a preventive child and youth advisor, we work consultatively and provide advice and guidance to partners, children and families. We screen all new notifications and offer advice and guidance programs for children and families, either as programs we handle ourselves or in special cases send to our family house.

When we decide that the case should be explored, we refer the family on well to our family team. In cases where the child and family need help immediately, we make the decision to initiate concurrent support.

The reception is organized in the Child and Youth Section in the Center for Child and Youth Counseling. The Child and Youth Section consists, in addition to the reception, of a family team, a consultancy team and a leadership team. In the Center for Child and Youth Counseling we are organized together with PPR, health services, Ballerup Family House and a staff.

Your main tasks

As our new colleague you must be prepared that your tasks will span widely and can vary over time. You must be able to thrive with both being an authority and taking action. This means that you both handle notifications, hold dialog-based notification meetings and offer yourself as intervention under the Child Act §30. At the same time you will be the representative of the Child and Youth Section in the consultative cooperation with our schools and day-care and other partners.

Your core tasks are screening notifications and inquiries in new cases, you must be a sparring partner for schools and day-care centers, provide advice and guidance to children, youths and families and manage guidance programs – and we help each other across when necessary.

The two positions differ slightly. The core task is the same, but in one position there is also a task as family counselor for Ukrainian refugees while the other position includes participation in our easily accessible treatment offer.

Family Counselor: As a family counselor you will participate in the reception of Ukrainian refugees under 18. You will support the families and ensure that the children settle well in Ballerup Municipality and in their schools and day-care. Particularly with regard to unaccompanied refugee minors under 18, you have a special task. The overall family counseling task is shared between two preventive child and youth advisors.

The easily accessible treatment offer: Your task in our easily accessible treatment offer "Together for Mental Wellbeing" is to hold pre-therapy conversations with children and families who seek treatment. In the weeks you have pre-therapy conversations (2-3 conversations) you participate in an interdisciplinary sparring meeting. In our easily accessible treatment offer you will need to cooperate with PPR, health services, the staff and the family house and four of your colleagues from the reception.

Your tasks may therefore include

• Chairing dialog-based notification meetings

• Conversations with children and parents
• Consultative support to schools and day-care
• Implementation of workflows and ways of collaboration
• Presentations to partners
• Offer open anonymous counseling
• Initiate advice and guidance programs
• Also take care of advice and guidance programs
• Family counselor for Ukrainian refugees
• Be part of the pre-therapy team in the easily accessible treatment offer.

Your competencies

It is important that you have broad knowledge and experience within the child social field. It would be an advantage if you have experience from the authority sector and that you thrive with a high degree of independence in your task solving.

Employment process and salary

The starting date is 1 January 2027.

We expect to hold interviews on 18 November 2026.

The position is, in principle, 37 hours and a permanent position.

Application deadline: 11 November 2026.

We offer salary and employment terms according to the collective agreement for social workers and social mediators in municipalities.

Employment is based on the principles of local pay setting and after agreement with the bargaining organization. The salary range for the role of social worker and social mediator is 36,020 DKK – 42,000 DKK per month without pension for full-time employment (37 hours per week).

The final salary is set after negotiation between the employer and the professional organization that has the negotiating rights in the relevant collective agreement area. The salary depends, among other things, on your education, documented seniority and qualifications.
