About the job

Do you want to contribute to development, hope and safe frameworks for vulnerable and at-risk youth?

Amager Fælled Ungehjem is seeking a qualified social educator who wants to make a difference for young people and who would like to become part of a professionally strong and engaged team.

About us

Amager Fælled Ungehjem is located right next to Amager Fælled School, with bus and metro almost at the door. There are 10 young people living here with different challenges.

We work with individual placements, where the individual young person’s needs, resources, life history and development opportunities are the starting point for the social-pedagogical intervention. We believe that no young person is the same, and therefore we tailor our support with a view to the individual young person’s special needs, wishes and prerequisites. Since 2020 we have worked in a methodically trauma-informed way and use it as a framework to understand the young person and to plan the pedagogical intervention.

Our goal is to create safe, stable and developmental environments where the young person feels seen, heard and treated as a whole person. Therefore we also try to involve the young person as much as possible about their own 'case' and what is important for them. An important part of our work is bridging to family and network. We see family and network as meaningful relationships that can be an important resource both during placement and in the young person’s future life.

Therefore we work purposefully to support, maintain and develop the relationships around the young person, when possible and to the benefit of the young person.

We also work purposefully to prepare the young people for an independent adult life. We do this, among other things, by supporting them to develop personal, social and practical skills as well as strategies they can use when they have to stand more on their own.

Our professional approach

At the youth home we work from a narrative, trauma-informed approach blended with strong social-pedagogical relational work.

The narrative approach helps us to be curious about the young person’s story about themselves, their life and their possibilities. We focus on the young person is not the problem – the problem is the problem. Together with the young person we explore resources, strengths and alternative narratives that can help create new possibilities and hope for the future.

The trauma-informed approach gives us an understanding of how past experiences and burdens can affect the young person’s well-being, behavior, relationships and reactions. We therefore work to create safety, predictability, regulation and trusting relationships, so the young person has the best conditions for development.

The two approaches are a natural part of our daily pedagogical work and help us understand the young person behind the behaviour. We meet each young person with curiosity, respect and care while also being clear and professional adults.

We believe that development happens in relationships – and that it requires adults who can create safe frameworks, stand firm and be persistent when life gets difficult, where social pedagogy comes into its own.

We offer

With us you become part of a flexible, fast-paced workplace where the core task is central, and where there are good opportunities for professional and personal development. You will become part of a group of professionally strong and engaged employees who meet each other with recognition, trust and respect for diversity.

We emphasize that it should be both meaningful and pleasant to go to work. Therefore we focus on staff well-being, a good working environment and a culture where we help each other and stand together around the shared core task. You will have the opportunity to work with complex and exciting social-pedagogical issues, and contribute to developing our social-pedagogical practice.

A strong multidisciplinary collaboration

At Amager Fælled Ungehjem we have our own nurse, substance abuse counselor, family therapists and a teacher who all participate in the on-call rotation. In addition, we have close collaboration with U-Rus and CBUS – health services, who stay with us weekly and become part of our team. This means that you have easy access to professional consultation and guidance from different professional backgrounds, who also have extensive knowledge of our youth group. The multidisciplinary collaboration helps strengthen our professionalism and ensure a holistic effort around the individual young person.

We are looking for a social educator who

  • has experience from similar work and/or with the target group
  • meets the young people with engagement, presence and responsibility
  • thrives in working with both the young people and their families
  • can create and maintain professional relationships
  • works independently and takes initiative
  • wants the role of contact educator for two young people
  • can collaborate closely with the rest of the team and support joint decisions
  • works constructively and solution-focused – even when everyday life becomes complex
  • stands strong and professional in conflict situations
  • has high professional expertise and a desire to develop the social-pedagogical work
  • can work systematically with documentation and use Domus as well as other relevant IT systems
  • can articulate professionally and precisely in writing in communication with colleagues and partners
  • is prepared for night work, rotating hours and weekend work
  • has a driving license (an advantage, but not required).

Who are you?

We are looking for someone who can be both steadfast and close. You can remain calm when situations are difficult, and you can meet the young person with curiosity, respect and care – even when the young person cannot see a way forward themselves. You understand the importance of the relationship and know that relational work requires patience, perseverance and professional reflection.

You can work with the young person’s perspective and story while also having an eye for how trauma and burdens can express themselves in the young person’s behavior. You want to be part of a work community where we talk to one another, help each other and take responsibility for the shared core task. And most importantly: You want to make a difference.

We look forward to hearing from you.
