About the job
If you are passionate about surgery and want a specialty that includes open surgery, robot-assisted surgery, laparoscopy and endoscopic surgery, and at the same time offers versatile outpatient clinics involving evaluation of benign conditions and cancer diagnostics, the urological specialty is an obvious choice. We are looking for two junior doctors with start on February 1, 2027 and March 1, 2027.
Department of Urinary Surgery, Zealand University Hospital, Roskilde and Næstved handles the overall urological function in Region Zealand. The department is Denmark's second largest department within the specialty.
Here, basic urology for Region Zealand is handled, as well as the following urological regional functions: kidney surgery, advanced stone surgery, including PNL, RIRS and ESWL, as well as pediatric urology. Radical prostatectomy is handled as a highly specialized function. In addition, investigation, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with urological cancer diseases are managed.
During the introductory position you will gain good experience with both basic, acute and advanced urology. The aim is for you to independently perform JJ catheter placement, scrotal surgery, cystoscopy, flexible cystoscopy and assist with larger surgical procedures. There will also be opportunities for simulation training in laparoscopy, procedures such as TUR-B and TUR-P, stone surgery and robotic surgery.
We emphasize an informal tone, where close collaboration, exchange of experiences with good colleagues and personal development are the basis for delivering high-quality work. The department is known for ensuring good supervision for the younger doctors.
Work organization
You are placed in the on-call team, which is a 2-shift on-call team consisting of 1 KBU doctor and a doctor in the introductory position. Both are present on-call. The on-call back-up, managed by the 1st reserve doctors, department doctors and consultants, will be present at the department until the major tasks are completed. Thereafter the introductory doctor is the department’s responsible person with the on-call back-up. The introductory doctor’s experience in the specialty is taken into account.
During on-call hours, in addition to urology, the Plastic Surgery and Vascular Surgery inpatient departments are also covered, where there is rarely a need for help.
The daily clinical work is varied and includes on-call work, outpatient functions (investigation for macroscopic hematuria, benign urological conditions, and follow-up), dedicated ward-round function and days for operations.
Your qualifications
- You have completed and passed your KBU
- You are interested in the specialist training in urology and want to develop and test your abilities in the field.
- Are able to join a dynamic workplace with acute patients.
- You are able to make independent, qualified decisions.
Department of Urinary Surgery
The Department of Urinary Surgery has 16 operating sessions weekly on the central operating floor in Roskilde and 12 operating sessions weekly in Næstved.
There is significant outpatient activity in the urological outpatient clinic at both campuses. In the Roskilde outpatient clinic, a dedicated operating room has been successfully established for peno-scrotal procedures, Botox injections and laser treatment of bladder tumors in LA.
The medical staffing at the Department of Urinary Surgery consists of a chief physician, two leading consultants, 12 consultants, 9 department physicians, 12 doctors in the main training program in urology and 16 resident doctors, of whom 8 in introductory positions, 6 in KBU and 2 in unclassified positions.
We are looking for two junior doctors from February and March 2027.
Interviews will take place in week 49.
