About the job

Do you want to help develop vibrant cities, strong local communities and communities across Billund Municipality? And can you bring people, ideas and organizations together for local development?

In Billund Municipality we work to create attractive places to live, stay and engage. Therefore we are looking for a Rural and Urban Life Consultant, who can help translate political ambitions and local initiatives into concrete development and strengthen collaboration between residents, volunteers, local councils, associations, businesses and the municipality.

The position is newly created, giving you the opportunity to help shape the function. Your core task will be to create connections: between citizens and the municipality, between local initiatives and municipal departments, and between political ambitions and concrete actions.

You will work with both villages, local communities and our central towns. The tasks will vary, but the common thread is a strong focus on communities, local development, co-creation and citizen involvement.

You will become a clear entry point to the municipality for local councils and other local actors with development initiatives. Your task is not to have all the answers, but to create an overview, open the right doors and bring the relevant people around the table.

Your main tasks

Strong local communities and vibrant towns

You will help create good conditions for local development – from villages and local communities to our central towns. Together with local actors you will translate ideas, opportunities and the municipality’s ambitions into concrete initiatives. Part of your work will take place close to the local actors, and there will therefore also be meetings and activities outside normal working hours.

  • Collaboration with local councils, associations, residents, business community and other local actors on the development of local communities and town life.
  • Support local initiatives and development projects from idea to action – including advising on development opportunities and relevant funds.
  • Contribute to translating the municipality’s town profiles and ambitions for rural areas into concrete activities and projects.

Contribute to the development of lively and attractive town centers and strong local communities.

Create connections and make things happen

An important part of the job is to create coherence between local initiatives, the municipality’s professional areas and political ambitions. You will become a clear entry point to the municipality and must be able to bring the right people together around a task.

  • Create connections between local actors and relevant municipal departments.
  • Drive and coordinate selected development processes and activities across the organization.
  • Translate political ambitions into concrete actions and create progress in collaborations.

Contribute to communication, visibility and branding of rural and urban life, local experiences, projects and opportunities.

Who are you?

We imagine that you have experience with local development, project management, strategic development, facilitation or similar. Your educational background is less decisive – more important is your ability to build relationships, drive processes and translate ideas and ambitions into actions.

It is an advantage if you are familiar with working with rural areas, urban life or local development processes, but we do not expect you to be a specialist in all areas.

We place particular emphasis on the following

  • can navigate across disciplines and create progress in complex collaborations
  • have impact and can take the lead on tasks, while being good at getting others on board
  • have political flair and judgment and understand how to navigate in a politically led organization.
  • are a skilled facilitator and communicate confidently with politicians, volunteers, businesses and residents
  • are curious, proactive and see opportunities rather than limitations
  • have an interest in culture, leisure and volunteer sectors, as well as urban and rural development
  • want to be part of a strong working community with high ambitions and room for humor

About us

The department consists of seven employees; Leisure Consultant, Culture Consultant, Volunteer Consultant, Association Consultant, Development Consultant, Event Coordination Student and you as Rural and Urban Life Consultant.

You report to the Department Head for Culture, Leisure and Volunteering, but a large part of your work will take place across the municipality and in close contact with residents, local councils, associations and other partners.

Billund Municipality is known for setting an ambitious course and initiating initiatives that make a difference. Our development strategy is called Playground of the Future , and we are also home to Children’s Capital . Play, curiosity and creativity are also part of the way we work. We have high ambitions and emphasize professionalism, cooperation and finding solutions together. At the same time there must be room for humor and trying new approaches.
