About the job

Do you want to lead a small, engaged secretariat and be a close sparring partner for the national president and the main board?

Danske Døves Landsforbund (DDL) is seeking a head of the secretariat who can create direction, structure and coherence in the organization's work. You will be the link between the political leadership, staff, local branches and our partners, and you will play a central role in translating decisions into action.

DDL works for the rights of deaf people and the strong position of Danish Sign Language in society. We do this through political advocacy, projects, member activities and collaboration with actors across civil society.

About the position

As head of the secretariat you will be responsible for the daily management of the secretariat. You report to the national president and work closely with the main board to ensure progress in the organization's initiatives.

You will be responsible for staff, finances, planning and organizational development.

You will become a close day-to-day sparring partner for the national president and contribute with organizational overview, structure and follow-up. You help translate ideas and strategic ambitions into realistic plans, clear priorities and concrete results.

We are a small organization with big ambitions. Therefore the position is both strategic and practical. You should be able to create an overview and set direction, but also be ready to roll up your sleeves when necessary. With us leadership is close to the tasks, and we help each other across functions.

Your tasks

Leadership of the secretariat

  • Daily personnel management and staff development
  • Prioritise tasks, allocate responsibilities and follow up on results
  • Ensure a good working environment and strong collaboration across the organization

  • Follow up on the main board's decisions and ensure action
  • Contribute with organizational, operational and professional perspectives
  • Support collaboration between the national president, main board and secretariat

Collaboration and relationships

  • Navigate safely between different interests and perspectives
  • Build trust and collaboration between members, volunteers, staff and external partners
  • Communicate clearly across organizational, cultural and linguistic differences

We imagine that you

  • Have experience with personnel management, preferably from an NGO, member organization or similar
  • Have substantial experience with financial management, budget monitoring and project management
  • Work in a structured way and thrive on creating overview
  • Have experience supporting a board or other political leadership
  • Are a strong relationship builder and good at collaborating with different people
  • Can translate strategic decisions into concrete results
  • Have experience with fundraising and foundation- and grant-funded projects

About Sign Language and Deaf Culture

The working language at the secretariat is Danish Sign Language. Therefore you already speak Danish Sign Language or are highly motivated to learn it.

You have an understanding of the conditions of deaf people, deaf culture and the importance of Danish Sign Language, or are prepared to quickly build this insight through close collaboration with deaf staff, members and elected representatives.

You meet the sign language community with respect, curiosity and understanding of deaf people's rights and perspectives.

We offer

  • A meaningful leadership position with the opportunity to make a concrete difference for deaf people
  • A central role in an organization with great expertise and strong values
  • Close collaboration with the national president, main board, employees and volunteers
  • Opportunity to shape the organization's development, operations and ways of working
  • A daily work life with a high degree of variety, responsibility and short decision-making paths
  • A working environment where we look after each other and laugh together

Employment terms

The position is full-time. Working hours vary depending on tasks, and there will periodically be evening and weekend work as well as periods with a larger workload.

  • Workplace is the Handicap Organizations House in Høje Taastrup.
