Senior consultant in anesthesiology – high professionalism, variety and strong collegiality

At the Operating and Intensive Care (OPIN) in Viborg we are seeking a consultant in anesthesia for appointment on 1 February 2027 or by agreement.

With us you will encounter a diverse daily life in anesthesiology with both elective and acute procedures, intensive therapy, obstetrics, regional anesthesia and prehospital treatment. We have a special interest in strengthening our profile within pediatric anesthesia, but pediatric anesthesia is not a prerequisite to apply. If you have another area of professional interest that you would like to develop with us, we would also very much like to hear from you.

A special opportunity within pediatric anesthesia

If you have experience with or particular interest in pediatric anesthesia, we offer good opportunities for further specialization and professional responsibility.

A completed SSAI in pediatric anesthesia would be an advantage, but it is not a requirement. For the right candidate we can support an ongoing SSAI education or provide the opportunity to begin it. In the longer term there may also be opportunities for professional responsibility and a leading role around our pediatric anesthesia.

Our pediatric team currently consists of seven consultants with extensive experience. We want to both preserve this experience and add new competencies to the team. The pediatric team can be summoned in acute situations for an additional honorarium.

Who are we?

OPIN is a department with about 300 staff. The medical group consists of 26 specialists and approximately 12 residents-in-training, including 4th-year main specialty training doctors and introductory and post-intro doctors.

OPIN includes operating theatres, anesthesia, day surgery, intensive care, imaging and recovery units as well as a Sterile Supply department.

We provide anesthesia for the following specialties: Orthopedic surgery, breast and organ surgery, gynecology and obstetrics, urology, regional specialty dental care and vascular surgery. Annually we perform about 14,000 anesthesias, plus about 6,000 in regional anesthesia.

In Intensive Care we have staffing for eight beds and around 800 admissions annually. In 2024 we opened a new intensive care unit and a new Sterile Supply.

The emergency medical helicopter in Viborg is fully integrated into the department, and prehospital treatment is thus a natural part of our tasks.

How is everyday life?

As a consultant with us you will use many sides of the anesthesiological specialty – from the operating room and the delivery suite to the acutely ill and critically ill patient in the Emergency Department or in the Intensive Care Unit.

We have a flat structure and place emphasis on helping each other – both during the day and on call.

You will participate in on-site on-call at the hospital, which in 2025 was strengthened with full on-site presence of the on-call supervisor, back-up on-call (HU doctor/department doctor) and consultant. In addition you will participate in the prehospital on-call on the emergency medical helicopter.

We have a flexible schedule with a desired plan.

We do not expect you to know everything from day one. Instead we expect you to take responsibility, contribute constructively and be keen to develop yourself, your colleagues and the department.

Salary and employment terms

The position is basically a full-time position of 37 hours per week with normal duties and on-call at the service location. Salary and employment terms follow the applicable collective agreement.

With reference to the Act on Child Tests in connection with employment of personnel, a child-safety check will be obtained in connection with any potential employment.

The employment is with the Central Denmark Region with service at Hospitalsenhed Midt, Operation and Intensive Care.
