The job

We are seeking a chief physician in spinal surgery who wants to help set the standard and framework for spinal surgery at the Spine Center of Southern Denmark and contribute to the best patient care and development of the specialty. You will, together with the other spinal surgeons and nursing staff, help shape the professional development in the department.

The Spine Center of Southern Denmark is an elective specialist department at Sygehus Lillebælt with both spinal medical and spinal surgical specialties. The department handles evaluation and treatment of spine patients across the Region of Southern Denmark and works closely with the other players in the spine field in the region, including OUH and the region's radiology departments.

The department is open Monday–Friday with planned shutdowns during larger holiday periods.

About you

We expect that you are a specialist in orthopedic surgery or neurosurgery with spinal surgery as a documented area of interest. In addition, it is important that you:

• Naturally take responsibility for the professional direction and development of spinal surgery – in close cooperation with the department’s other spinal surgeons
• Are a good team player who masters broad collaboration, both in mono- and multidisciplinary contexts, and can maintain focus on achieving goals and results
• Share responsibility for the department’s operations within your area of responsibility
• Will supervise and teach colleagues and students from different professional groups

About the Spine Center of Southern Denmark

The Spine Center of Southern Denmark's core task at specialist level is to evaluate and treat and, including guidance to the region’s back patients according to each individual's needs. The overall goal is to improve the quality of life for spine patients.

The Spine Center of Southern Denmark is a department with spinal surgical and spinal medical specialties with about 150 staff. We are known for a high level of patient satisfaction and receive back patients from all over the Region of Southern Denmark. Annually we receive about 17,000 new referrals and operate on up to 900 patients.

We strive to continually become more proficient for the benefit of our patients. Therefore, research is a high priority in the department, where we have a large amount of research activity in both the spinal medical and spinal surgical areas. In addition, we have a large educational activity across professional groups, where we help train our future colleagues.

Qualifications

Applications must be prepared in accordance with the Danish Health Authority’s description of the seven doctor roles and must include a copy with information about the authorization ID as a specialist and a CV. Emphasis is placed on applicants addressing the seven competence areas concretely and, to the widest possible extent, documenting qualifications within these competencies. The professional assessment will be carried out in accordance with the Region of Southern Denmark’s guidelines for professional assessment of applicants for senior physician positions.

Salary and employment terms

Salary and employment terms for the position follow the Agreement for Senior Physicians - 33.04.1. In addition to the starting salary, the pay may include negotiated allowances depending on the position, your experience and qualifications.

The position is initially 37 hours per week

Start date 1 March 2027 or by agreement
