Senior Geotechnical engineer

Our geotechnical team in Denmark, with more than 120 skilled employees, has a complete set of world-class competencies in geotechnics and tunnel design, which in combination with local presence and experience gives our dedicated professionals the opportunity to take on the most challenging projects.

We have experience with an incredibly broad field within geotechnics, and contribute to COWI's exciting projects in all areas from highways, metros, railways, bridges, tunnels and construction to stormwater, energy, soil investigations and other infrastructure, and we cover all aspects in a project lifecycle from idea, concept and design to execution, supervision, operation and maintenance.

With our ongoing and recently won projects we are seeking experienced geotechnical engineers who can be part of our group of geotechnical specialists and we are especially looking for senior geotechnical engineers for highly varied foundation tasks, e.g. for roads, railways, airports, ports and buildings.

DESIGN THE FUTURE WITH A GLOBAL TEAM OF EXPERTS

In this position you will become part of our geotechnical team, which collaborates closely with COWI's other disciplines to find the best solutions for our clients. Your primary task will be to support and develop geotechnical solutions on both large and small projects.

In the day-to-day you will work broadly within geotechnics, and can for example take responsibility for:

• Contributing with technical input to geotechnical projects from idea phase, sketch design and tender preparation, to detailed design and follow-up in the execution phase.
• Disciplinary leadership in multi-disciplinary projects, including coordination with other disciplines
• Support professional development both on projects and among colleagues
• Possibly collaborate with our industrial PhDs and universities to ensure continued development of the field at COWI
• Ensure that the design is buildable and in accordance with project requirements, applicable standards, working and environmental regulations and industry best practices across a wide range of geotechnical structures
• Preparation of risk assessments for existing structures, influenced by works related to new structures and projects
• Perform control/quality assurance of design calculations and drawings performed by other engineers
• Work on complex and challenging geotechnical projects domestically and abroad, with opportunity to spar with subject matter nerds.
• Work in an interdisciplinary and multicultural engineering practice with collaboration between project members from COWI offices located in different continents.

YOUR SKILLS. OUR TEAM. TOGETHER WE DESIGN THE FUTURE

To succeed in this position we believe you possess a solid understanding of geotechnical- and geostructural design, as well as the interaction between soil and structures. Moreover you are proactive, self-motivated, good at collaborating and possess strong verbal and written communication skills. You plan, manage and carry out your projects and tasks independently and in synergy with others.

In addition you have

• An engineering degree or similar with education in geotechnics and “soil-structure” interaction or similar relevant for geotechnical design, with 8 years of experience or more
• Solid geotechnical- and/or structural understanding, particularly in the design of geotechnical structures
• Experience with geotechnical supervision
• Experience with Danish projects and Danish clients and can independently handle contact with clients and contractors
• Experience working for clients such as the Danish Road Directorate and Banedanmark.
• Possess excellent reporting and communication skills in Danish and English in both verbal and written form (it is a big advantage also to be able to communicate effectively in a Scandinavian language, as many of our projects are in the Scandinavian market)
• A strong commitment, being curious, willing to learn from you, able to lead a team as well as participate in a group.
