About the job

Do you have strong skills in finance and accounting, and would you like to help advise and support the Air Control Wing of the Royal Danish Air Force?

Do you thrive in the interface between traditional financial management, optimization, operations and advisory that ensures optimal use of the allocated financial resources?

Then maybe you are the one we are looking for!

Who are we?

The Economics and Operations Staff is a staff under the Defence Staff in the Defence Command. The Economics and Operations Staff advise managers at all levels in the Defence, from the Chief of Defence to the local manager with budget responsibility.

We advise across services, staffs and commands with different portfolios, and we advise nationally and internationally. It is thus a very broad and deep area of responsibility with many diverse tasks, carried out by both civilian and military employees with different professional skills. Together we have the responsibility to create the basis for good financial management across the Defence Command.

We are geographically located around the country at the Defence units. Your future place of work is physically located at Karup Air Station in the Central Denmark Region.

What does your daily life look like

You will become part of the Air Force's 3rd Economics Element, which supports the Air Force's non-flying units, including the Air Control Wing at Karup.

You will support the operation and management of the authority's finances in collaboration with the authority's management. You will sit physically at Air Control Wing and participate in daily operations at the authority. In addition you will be able to draw on knowledge and help from the other colleagues in the element and the colleagues in the Air Force's other economics elements.

Your primary areas of responsibility and tasks include, among other things

  • Follow-up on completed activities and resource consumption.
  • Preparation and follow-up on budgets.
  • Preparation of monthly reporting and forecasting.
  • Preparation of data-supported analyses and decision briefs for, among other things, optimization of efficient resource use.
  • Ongoing advice to budget-holding managers on financial operations and governance.
  • Financial management and reporting in connection with the implementation of initiatives decided in the defence agreement 2025-2033.
  • Contributions to case briefs, memoranda, reports, etc. with financial and administrative input.
  • Contributions to optimized, consistent and standardized workflows as well as principles and guidelines in the financial area.
  • Participation in cross-cutting financial projects and initiatives.

Since you will be working alone, there will be a high degree of self-management, where you will need to be able to maintain an overview and prioritize between tasks.

Why choose us?

We offer a job where you get to use and develop your professional expertise and apply it broadly across several areas. The Defence Command is a complex entity and provides a solid foundation for professional development and learning within the financial field. Therefore we work purposefully with your competence development, and we prioritise developing, challenging and elevating your competences.

We have a strong focus on the individual’s well-being and embrace the whole person, therefore offering a high degree of flexibility in work - including flexible meeting times, a 37-hour work week with paid lunch break and the possibility of home-office days.

Who are you?

You have an economics background, where experience in a politically led organization or from the Defence is an advantage but not a requirement. You probably come with a relevant economics education, preferably in public administration or economics, but the specific education is not important to us. Whether you are a recent graduate or experienced is not decisive for us; what matters is that you want to learn about the Defence and contribute to good financial governance that helps us get the most Defence for the money.

In addition we place weight on that you

  • are independent, holistic-minded and an engaged colleague who can work across levels and professional boundaries.
  • are skilled at communicating both in writing and orally to support your advisory work to the budget-holding managers.
  • Are ready to challenge budget-holding managers with many years of experience in a constructive way.
  • are mathematically inclined and also want to look behind the numbers and connect them to the operative world in which the soldiers live. With your background and experience you can translate numbers, data and information into concrete knowledge and decision briefs to support financial management in the Defence.

Your success in the position calls for sound judgment and the ability to see the bigger picture. It is important that you approach your tasks with a solution-oriented mindset, with great responsibility and initiative. It also means that you regularly spar and reflect with your colleagues and other stakeholders. You are able to build good relationships and work purposefully to create a solid network that ensures good task solving of high quality.

Terms of employment

If you are an academic, you will be employed under the applicable agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a number of academic organizations for academics in the state (Academic Agreement).

If you have an office education or another relevant education you will be employed under the applicable Common Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and Public Employees Organizations – The Public Sector (OAO-S Common Agreement) and the organizational agreement for office clerks, laboratory technicians and IT staff.

Depending on your qualifications and competences, there is an opportunity for negotiation of a supplement. There is an employer-funded pension scheme attached to the position.

The workplace is in Karup (Viborg Municipality).

As an employee of the Ministry of Defence's organization you are subject to certain special terms. You must, among other things, be security cleared and maintain the clearance throughout the employment.

You as an employee have an obligation to render service outside of the country’s borders, including at units in international operations with a view to participation in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peace enforcement, humanitarian and other similar operations.
