About the job

Solution Architect for DMI, Maps and Basic Data

Do you want to help create the architectural building blocks and solution designs that we specify, design and build our IT solutions from? Can you support projects, development teams and suppliers in translating business requirements into solutions? Then the job as a solution architect at DMI, Maps and Basic Data might be for you.

About the job and what you can expect

DMI and the Climate Data Agency are merging and on December 1st become DMI, Maps and Basic Data. Together we will be responsible for a number of societally critical IT solutions and systems that must run 24/7. This includes the supercomputer infrastructure that we operate on behalf of a Northwest European collaboration, which every day produces weather forecasts for society, and the Data Distributor, which every day delivers safe, stable and up-to-date base data to both public and private enterprises.

We are therefore now looking for a solution architect who can help shape the reference architecture and translate it into concrete architecture building blocks and solution designs that can be used in the IT solutions we create in the new, unified agency. We come from two different approaches, where one has been to develop and operate most things in-house, while the other has primarily focused on outsourced development and operations.

Going forward, we want to increasingly base the choice between in-house development, standard systems and supplier solutions on, for example, requirements for capability, availability and economics. This places demands on our solutions to be based on standards and solution designs that support it, and this is where you and the solution architecture come into play. You will become part of a new unit that will be responsible for IT architecture, technology roadmaps and implementation as well as IT economics.

It is our plan that you will, among other things, work on

  • Support projects and development teams in translating business requirements into robust, secure and scalable solutions
  • Clarify functional and non-functional requirements, including performance, availability, security and operations, for solutions with high uptime and data quality requirements
  • Develop architecture building blocks and solution designs, document architectural decisions and ensure that solutions follow principles and standards and reuse common components and platforms
  • Evaluate alternatives, including in-house development, standard systems and supplier solutions, and highlight financial implications and technical risks
  • Be a technical sparring partner for projects, development teams and suppliers throughout the delivery, including estimation and planning
  • Contribute to technical requirements in tenders, evaluate supplier solutions and follow up to ensure that the delivered solution meets the requirements

About you and what you bring

The job is for you who have experience as a solution architect or developer with responsibility for larger solutions and are motivated by translating business requirements into concrete solutions that work in practice. You think end-to-end from requirements and design to operations and thrive working across projects, development teams and suppliers and being the link between them and the business.

We imagine that you bring some of the following qualifications with you

  • Relevant higher education in, for example, computer science, software development or engineering
  • Solid technical knowledge of software development, integration patterns, data modeling and architectural patterns
  • Practical experience with cloud and platform technologies and good knowledge of operations, infrastructure, security and non-functional requirements
  • Experience with both in-house development and collaboration with suppliers, preferably in an agile context
  • Experience with data- and computation-intensive solutions, e.g. geodata, weather and climate data, data distribution or HPC
  • Business understanding and ability to manage trade-offs between cost, time, quality and flexibility
  • Good communication skills and experience leading technically across teams

It is a full-time position at the senior or principal consultant level with an average workweek of 37 hours.
