About the job

Are you eager to join an ambitious college of specialist doctors that works to establish a leading academy for emergency medicine?

Emergency Department / Emergency Medicine is still a newly established specialty in Esbjerg. Since 2023 we have been working to establish an acute medical concept that should eliminate all non-medically justified waiting time for the acutely ill patient, and ensure that only patients who need it are handed over to the hospital's other specialties. The goal is to give all health professional hands in the hospital the opportunity to work with exactly the patients you have been trained to handle.

Emergency Medicine is the broad frontline specialty that should give the approx. 70% of the acutely ill patients who only need acute medical hands the treatment they precisely need in the shortest possible time. The 30% who need other specialties should be stabilised, clarified, and handed over to the relevant specialty as quickly as possible

We have established Mobile Emergency Department, MAM, which provides an acute medical offer to patients who need acute medical treatment but can be treated at home. MAM is staffed by a doctor and a nurse who, in collaboration with AMK, travel to the patients instead of bringing them in.

We have a productive and competent research unit that regularly publishes and contributes to the department's patient-facing development

We receive about 48,000 patients per year.

Your functions in the Emergency Department As a specialist in emergency medicine, your core task with the patients, together with our introductory and main training doctors. You lead acute medical calls, receive other acute patients and supervise our training doctors. You teach in the morning based on Tintinalli’s “Emergency Medicine” or according to your own special competency area.

You participate in the training of medical students and other professional groups.

You learn to lead the hospital's tactical preparedness.

If you do not already master standardized ultrasound examinations, you will be trained in them until you are able to certify other doctors yourself.

You participate in the specialist meetings and contribute to the professional leadership of the Emergency Department.

You are trained to operate the Mobile Emergency Department.

You learn the role of the front-line doctor who handles forward triage for pre-hospital care, interacts with nearby health services and general practitioners, and supports hospital triage.
