About the job

Would you like to help other students in the teacher education program who need to hear about the studies from an experienced student? Do you have an approachable attitude, and the ability to listen and communicate? Are you engaged, structured and do you have an overview? Are you ready to participate in different tasks together with the program's management? Then perhaps you are the one we are looking for.

The teacher education program in Odense is seeking a student advisor from the program's E-year groups. As a student advisor you should have the capacity and willingness to function as a resource for your fellow students. You should have the desire and the abilities to assume a very special and different role than instructors and academic counselors.

The student advisors' overarching functions and tasks

The task as a student advisor relates to presence on the program. When a student advisor is in placement, the advising tasks are handled by the other student advisors on the program, so there is still a visible and accessible advisory function for the students.

Student advisors have, among other things, the following functions

  • Act as a role model
  • Advise on what it is like to be a student in the teacher education program
  • Guide about the educational pathway, requirements, expectations and opportunities on the program
  • Support and motivate fellow students, e.g., by being available to fellow students who want to discuss academic, subject-related, social and personal challenges
  • Contribute to fellow students' well-being, e.g., by giving help, advice and guidance to fellow students with a view to influencing well-being in the study
  • Retain fellow students on the program
  • Act as a guide and contribute to a fruitful study environment

Concrete tasks for student advisors

  • Participate in the start of studies in collaboration with tutors
  • Collaboration with the teachers about the start of studies
  • Participate in Open House three times annually
  • Participate in Studievalg Fyn once a year
  • Participate in Study Practice once a year
  • Participate in other ad hoc tasks during the program
  • Keep up to date with emails from the head of education
  • Attend twice yearly meetings with the head of education
  • Participate in receiving new students who join the program outside the start of studies (e.g., transfers)

Student advisors work closely with other student advisors and the teacher education program's teaching team as well as the head of the program. Student advisors are bound by confidentiality and duty of disclosure.

Qualifications

  • You must be a student in the teacher education program and it would be an advantage if you are in the program's specialization
  • You have an interest in the teacher education program as a whole
  • You have an approachable attitude and have the ability to listen and communicate
  • Relevant experience is an advantage

It is expected that the student participates in a basic course for student advisors.
