We recruit internally for trainee lawyer positions, and we therefore prioritize the students’ education highly.

Focus on professional and personal development

We invest in our students, and as a law student with us you will be involved in the daily work as an important playing partner.

The work is always organized so you get the best opportunities to develop yourself – both professionally and personally.

This means, among other things, that

• you will be assigned a mentor who functions as a contact person and supervisor
• you participate in professional and social events on equal terms with the rest of the firm, and you have the opportunity to use our staff benefits
• you have the opportunity to take leave, e.g. in connection with study periods abroad
• there is a high degree of flexibility, and consideration will always be given to exam preparation and holidays etc.
• there is the possibility to use our lawyers as sparring partners in connection with, for example, your thesis work, where you can get input on choosing a specialization topic, feedback in the writing process, and use of the house facilities, including the library’s.

As a law student you can either be attached to a department, a particular lawyer, or receive tasks from the whole firm. This means that you are not, by default, limited to single areas of law, but can gain exposure to most of our specialties – and at the same time you become well integrated into our work environment.

Ongoing follow-up and transition to trainee lawyer

As a law student you receive ongoing feedback on your development. This ensures the individual mentor – as well as experienced lawyers are attached to the law student group as a whole.

Feedback is given continuously and informally, just as there is at least one annual follow-up conversation.

We continuously assess the possibility of letting our law students continue as trainee lawyers. About 8 months before the end of the program a conversation is held about the possibility of future employment as a trainee lawyer at Holst.

Job duties as a law student

As a law student with us you will work with a wide range of legal areas and tasks.

Typical tasks may include

• information gathering, both in legal literature and practice
• legal investigations and preparation of notes for lawyers
• legal case processing, e.g. drafting pleadings and other assistance in preparing court and arbitration cases
• participation in preparatory court hearings and main proceedings at the courts
• drafting various legal documents, e.g. corporate documents and contract documents
• drafting newsletters or teaching materials
• direct client contact, including participation in client meetings in connection with cases and marketing
• preparation of data room indices, establishment and management of data rooms and similar tasks in connection with transactions and business transfers
• assistance in handling insolvency estates

In addition, there is broad opportunity to seek out or cultivate particular areas of interest, just as our law students have always been a strong driver of social events – both within the law student group and in collaboration with the rest of the firm.

The students organize their own working hours and task distribution. There is, therefore, to a large extent freedom with responsibility.

Depending on location, working hours are normally 1–2 days per week.

How far should you be in your studies?

We typically hire students who are on the 2nd–7th semester of the law studies for the job as a law student.

The work will for all groups of law students always be legally relevant and tailored to the individual’s academic development.
