A fantastic team, who focuses on helping and supporting each other, is looking for new colleagues for an exciting acute ward with complex nursing and a high professional level.

Once you fall in love with orthopedic nursing, you stay with it, and we have several colleagues with up to 30–40 years of experience in orthopedic nursing. So whether you are a recent graduate or experienced in another specialty, there are experienced colleagues in the ward you can lean on.

Patients and relatives with us You will participate in the nursing care for our orthopedic patients, who are often older people with several different diseases, which in addition to their orthopedic condition can make the course more complex. With your nursing observations and actions you will make a difference for these patients and their relatives.

Your focus is on the good patient journey, where the patient and relatives are involved in the situation. This happens, among other things, through ward rounds and in a well-planned discharge process. Depending on your interests you will have the opportunity to choose exactly your areas of responsibility, but you will master the nursing care for all our patient pathways.

The ward admits patients with various orthopedic conditions, including among others

• Patients with chronic and diabetic wounds – wound care is a daily task.
• Amputation patients – regimens and coordination of interdisciplinary work are important tasks.
• Older patients with femoral neck fractures – part of the regional quality program, where we have for several years been among the best in Denmark at handling these pathways.
• Trauma patients – e.g. malleolar, pelvic, shoulder and elbow fractures as well as soft tissue injuries.

There is a strong focus on competence development in the ward, and we handle many complex nursing tasks. Among other things, these include:

• Rhabdomyolysis patients – handling of forced diuresis.
• Airvo treatment – respiratory support.
• Home IV – coordination of this.
• Pain and epidural catheters – complex pain management.
• Patients under observation for necrotizing fasciitis and compartment syndrome.
• COPD, ischemic heart disease and kidney disease as part of competing illnesses in chronically and elderly patients, which demands competences in medical nursing.
• Orthopedic nursing in the pre- and postoperative phases.

It’s good to be here The department has worked purposefully with collegial cooperation and well-being and is known for welcoming new colleagues, where there is room to be new with all the questions and need for sparring that this entails.

We work every 2nd or 3rd weekend as desired, focus on the possibility of a continuous 3 weeks of summer vacation, and employees decide themselves how they want to work during holiday periods based on a points system. All of this has a large impact on well-being and the working environment in the ward.

Socially there are several staff activities such as the annual Christmas trip, a trip to Bondestuen on Friday afternoons and events with multidisciplinary colleagues. Management works with a high degree of involvement and a focus on well-being in the ward.

• That you want and courage for the complex coordination task around discharges of older patients, who also have a movement apparatus disorder.

Who are we?

• Acute ward with room for 19 orthopedic patients.
• Good colleagues – both nurses, social- and health assistants and a service assistant.
• Nurse with a special clinical function for development and teaching – expect to be challenged and supported from that side.
• Nurse with a special clinical function for education – competent overview of our education obligations.
• Educational institution for pupils and students, with 3 internship supervisors and 3 clinical supervisors in the ward.
• Close collaboration with our outpatient clinics, same-day surgery ward and the operating department.
• Aalborg University Hospital, but based at Region Hospital Nordjylland in Hjørring, the good emergency hospital north of the Limfjord, where we have good collaborative relations across the organizations.

Working hours for now will be day, evening and night shifts or possibly only 2-shift work with a daily working time of 8 hours. Change of working hours can be made with 4 weeks’ notice, in accordance with the collective agreement for changes to shift plans.

Your primary place of employment will be Orthopedic Surgical Ward, but to support continuous patient pathways and competence development you may eventually be expected to work in other wards within the department. This concerns the following wards: Orthopedic Ambulatory Care and the same-day surgery ward. This is always done based on a professional justification, with training and a minimum notice of 4 weeks.

Salary and employment conditions according to the applicable collective agreement for non-management staff in the Health Card system, entered into with the relevant organizations.
