About the job

We are still looking for you!

Maybe you just haven't seen the post before now. We are looking for a teacher who wants to help create security, relationships and learning for our students at Orøstrand.

Are you passionate about relationship work, clear structure and meaningful teaching?

And are you motivated to make a real difference for children who need extra support – both academically and emotionally?

Then you might be the one we are looking for for our special education offering at Orøstrand.

Who are we?

Orøstrand is a small special education offering and a children and youth home on the scenic Orø – perhaps Denmark's most beautifully located school with a view of the sea.

We currently teach children from kindergarten to 6th grade, and at the moment we have 14 students from kindergarten to 5th grade.

We work in small classes with mixed grade levels, and we plan instruction both at class level and as a whole school. As a teacher with us you will be an important part of a small, close team, where you will have a central role in daily life – both for the students and for your colleagues.

We work from a shared starting point: "Together we create the good childhood." It means that relationships, community and the students' well-being are always at the center.

Teaching and everyday life with us

We are open to both part-time and full-time employment, depending on the right match.

We teach all the mandatory subjects in accordance with the Danish Folkeskole Act, and because we are both a school and a treatment home, teaching and pedagogy go hand in hand.

If you have a special subject you are passionate about, there is often an opportunity to bring it into play with us.

Our school team consists of six permanent employees and affiliated substitutes, and teachers and pedagogues work closely together in teaching and around the students' development.

Our days are clearly structured with a good mix of academic work, practical activities and physical movement.

We actively use nature and our animal park in teaching and have a fixed monthly library day where we visit the local volunteer-run library.

In addition we have several strong traditions, including an annual ski trip to Sweden and our Viking Tournament, where other schools are invited to two days of joint activities on the island.

We follow Holbæk Municipality's school holidays and have both a weekly school meeting and a weekly common preparation in the team.

What you get with us

  • A small, strong and warm work community
  • A everyday life where you can see your efforts make a difference – both personally and professionally
  • A pedagogical approach rooted in the neuroaffective method and ICDP
  • Weekly staff meetings, sparring and time for professional development
  • Close collaboration with PPR Holbæk
  • A truly unique setting in which to run a school:
  • own beach
  • own small forest
  • animal park that can be integrated into teaching
  • multi-court, gym hall, climbing tower and music room
  • large green areas and plenty of room to think learning differently

Your tasks

You will become part of our school team and will help with

  • Plan and conduct teaching in small and mixed-ability classes
  • Create structure, security and an overview in the students' everyday life
  • Work both independently and in close collaboration with pedagogues and teacher colleagues
  • Develop creative, meaningful learning activities
  • Participate in interdisciplinary discussions and common direction
  • Actively contribute to a small, strong and caring work community

Who are we looking for?

You are a trained teacher, and we would like you to

  • Have experience in – or interest in – the special education field
  • Are academically strong, curious and flexible
  • Can create clear boundaries and secure relationships
  • Thrives in a daily life with variation and unpredictability
  • Are the calm, caring and clear adult when things are difficult
  • See solutions and opportunities rather than limitations

With us the teacher is more than an instructor. You become an important adult in the students' lives and a central part of their development and well-being. Knowledge of the neuroaffective method and ICDP is an advantage, but not a requirement. You don't need to know it all – we will strive together.

A special place to work

Orøstrand is a place where nature, professionalism and community go hand in hand. We actively use our surroundings – in fact we start every day with a shared morning walk to create calm, presence and a good start to the day.

We have our own beach, own forest, large green areas, animal park, multi-court and nature in all directions.

We know it may sound a bit wild to work on an island – and it is. But fortunately it is much more accessible than many think. Two ferries sail to Orø, and one takes only 7 minutes and departs every twenty minutes. The travel time is therefore surprisingly short, and we adjust meeting times so that everything can add up.

Salary and employment

Salary and terms of employment according to the applicable collective agreement between KL and SL/LC, depending on your background and role. There is an option to add a ferry card through a gross salary arrangement.

Practical

  • Application deadline: November 23, 2026
  • Start: January 1, 2027 – or as soon as possible afterward
  • We conduct interviews on an ongoing basis
