About the job

Would you like to help ensure an effective environmental supervision with some of Denmark's largest and most complex companies? In the Environmental Protection Agency's Office for Surveillance & Enforcement we work with both administrative and physical inspections, enforcement and follow-up on environmental matters. Here you will become part of a strong professional environment, where we pull together and work on tasks that have great significance for both the environment, businesses and society.

About Environment and Production in the Environmental Protection Agency

In the Environment and Production area we are the environmental authority for about 400 of the country's largest and most environmentally complex companies. The work takes place primarily under the Environmental Protection Act, the Soil Contamination Act and related legislation. We also have responsibility for the EU rules and Danish regulations that regulate the companies' environmental permits and environmental supervision.

In addition we perform authority tasks in connection with certain offshore activities and all major oil pipelines in Denmark. As the environmental authority we emphasize that companies meet an effective, professional and competent partner. We balance the consideration for environment and growth and focus on correct, uniform and efficient case processing.

Our experiences from daily case handling also contribute to the development of new rules in cooperation with the Environmental Protection Agency's other offices. At the same time we continuously work on optimizing workflows, organization and the quality of task solving.

About the position

In the Office for Surveillance & Enforcement we monitor that companies comply with the conditions set in their environmental permits. We also follow up on complaints and incidental events at the companies, such as spills and immediate reporting.

The tasks are solved through both administrative and physical inspections. When necessary, we follow up with enforcement, orders and other relevant authority steps, among other things under the Soil Contamination Act. The office also has responsibility for risk supervision and updating safety documentation for a number of high-risk companies.

You will become part of an office with varied tasks and where you will have close dialogue with many different companies. We supervise among others power plants, waste incineration plants, chemical, pharmaceutical and metalworking companies, airports, landfills, animal and plant production, the mineral industry, risk companies, biogas, CCS- and PtX-projects as well as oil and tar companies.

In addition we are the authority for soil contaminations on the companies and therefore also have many professional and exciting soil contamination tasks, including contaminations with PFAS, pesticides, oil products and water-soluble substances.

Our broad corporate and task portfolio ensures that you will have a varied everyday life with developing professional challenges and exciting tasks.

Our way of working

The office's way of working is characterized by collaboration, trust and a shared focus on creating results of high professional quality and with high efficiency.

We are about 49 employees, including three team leaders and a head of office, distributed over three teams located in Slagelse, Odense and Aarhus. There are also attached lawyer and secretary functions to the office. Since we are geographically distributed, we collaborate closely across the country – often via video meetings – and you will have skilled colleagues both locally and nationally.

We would like you to

  • Have a relevant education such as engineer, biologist, geologist, chemist or similar.
  • Want an outward-facing role and at the same time enjoy a daily life that alternates between being at and outside the “office”.
  • Have experience with management of a company's environmental conditions. For example experience from the environmental field as an environmental caseworker in a municipality, from a consulting engineering firm or a production company or a region?
  • Have a flair for case processing, administration and legal issues, high professional competence and a desire to put your mark on the authority's work.
  • Have professional knowledge of one or more of the office's areas or industries for which the Environmental Protection Agency is the environmental authority.
  • Are solution-oriented, good at following up – and completing tasks.
  • Are good at collaborating as well as giving and receiving sparring, and actively participate in the office's knowledge sharing.
  • Thrive in a busy and changing daily life.
  • Are a good colleague with a good mood.

We expect that you

  • Are efficient in your case solving and have an eye for optimizing case workflows.
  • Curious about case processing, public administration and legal issues and want to put your mark on the authority's work.
  • Are solution-oriented and optimistic about opportunities in cases.
  • Are good at collaborating across offices, disciplines and with the companies.
  • Thrive in an outward-facing and changing daily life
  • Contribute to and take responsibility for us having a good cooperation and good well-being in the office/team.

It is also a requirement that you have a driving license to be able to carry out the tasks.

Our area’s organization

We are about 150 employees in the entire area for Environment and Production, including 5 office heads and 7 team leaders and 3 functional leaders, who work in Aarhus, Slagelse and Odense. We are organized in teams and work a lot across with skilled colleagues in the rest of the country, usually via video meetings.

With us you get

  • A flexible workplace that values “the whole person”.
  • Possibility for remote working days.
  • An inspiring and professionally strong collegial environment where we help and support each other and develop together.
  • Challenging and varied tasks for the benefit of the environment.
  • Good opportunities for competence development.

We prioritize the social and the sense of community highly in the unit, such as social events spread throughout the year and the opportunity to participate in joint training activities.
