About the job

Charlottenborg Art Gallery is seeking a visionary exhibition curator with documented experience who can contribute to the development and realization of ambitious contemporary art exhibition programs at the highest level. The curator must have a strong art-professional profile, a solid aesthetic sense, and the ability to create meaningful encounters between contemporary art and the audience.

The curator will be part of the gallery's artistic capacity, becoming one of two curators who, in close collaboration with the gallery's director and the rest of the team, will contribute to the gallery's ongoing development as a leading meeting place for contemporary art in Danish and international contexts.

If this sounds like something for you, your areas of work will include, among other things, the practical execution of the gallery's exhibitions from start to finish. That means from concept development and initial proposals to fundraising and securing contracts, transportation and travel for the artists, as well as developing and taking initiatives for Charlottenborg's program in a broad sense, including exhibitions, performances and events in close collaboration with the gallery director and the rest of the staff.

We expect you to think originally and to have a strong art-professional background, preferably with particular knowledge of the North European art scene. You have an acute sense of space as well as solid experience with art-practical and curatorial matters and can document good results from similar art institutions. You master developing concepts and translating them into practical action in a natural and authentic way. You have a strong Danish and international network and can operate in an environment where high professionalism, cross-disciplinary work and collaboration are essential to succeed with the task.

Responsibilities

  • Development, planning and curating exhibitions with Danish and international artists.
  • Exhibition formats that promote an intuitive meeting between the audience and the art.
  • Identification and engagement of artists who represent significant currents and perspectives in Danish and international contemporary art.
  • Contributing to the development of the institution's overall program strategy and artistic profile.
  • Participation in cross-departmental collaborations with the education, communications and audience departments to ensure accessibility, anchoring and dissemination of projects.
  • Participation in fundraising, partnerships and sponsorships in connection with exhibitions and projects.

Qualifications

  • Art history or equivalent education at master's level or higher
  • Documented curatorial experience and a solid Danish and international network in the art world.
  • In-depth knowledge of contemporary art and its discourses as well as a pronounced sense of space.
  • Ability to create exhibitions that balance artistic quality with the audience experience.
  • Interest in new and experimental formats that open up the audience's intuitive encounter with the art.
  • Strong communication and dissemination skills, both verbally and in writing in Danish and English.
  • Experience with project management, budget responsibility and collaboration with artists and technical teams.

Personal competences

  • Visionary and original thinker, pragmatic and team-oriented.
  • Ability to think holistically and connect artistic ideas with the institution's strategic goals.
  • Curious, engaged and with a keen eye for creating meaningful encounters between art and people.

Salary and terms of employment

Employment is in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the academics agreement). Placement is based on qualifications and experience. In addition, there is a pension contribution of 18.07% of the contractual salary. Furthermore, depending on relevant professional competences, documented professional results and responsibilities, a qualification allowance can be negotiated.

The weekly working time is 37 hours and is for a fixed term of 6 years.

Charlottenborg Art Gallery wishes its staff composition to reflect the composition of society and encourages all qualified applicants regardless of age, gender, religion, ethnicity or background to apply.

Send your application, CV and any attachments via the link 'Apply for the position'. Application deadline is Friday, November 6, at 12:00.
