About the job
Would you contribute to promoting wellbeing among students in higher education? Are you a psychologist or social worker with a therapeutic further education? Can you provide attentive and qualified counselling with therapeutic depth, and would you also contribute to the Student Advisory’s other advisory and preventive initiatives?
So you now have the opportunity to apply for an exciting position as of 1 January 2027 in the Student Advisory’s department in Jutland. The position is based at our office in Aarhus and is also expected to include an outreach function at an educational institution within a distance of max. 100 km from Aarhus. Here you will primarily conduct counselling conversations with students, and to a lesser extent collaborate with e.g. study counsellors, teachers and student organizations to promote study motivation.
The role requires that you can work independently and build local collaborative relationships. The concrete placement and the distribution of working days between the office and the educational institution have not yet been clarified.
The tasks
Your everyday work will predominantly consist of counselling conversations with students from higher education. The students you will meet have various problems, study life and backgrounds. Almost daily you will meet a new student. It requires curiosity, relational competence and solid professional expertise to carry out the counselling in a way that is helpful for the individual student.
Often the conversations will be of a therapeutic nature, but you must also be prepared to advise and help further if the Student Advisory’s offerings are not deemed the right fit. We work within a short-term framework and the counselling takes place in different formats: primarily individual (in person, online, by phone) and to a lesser extent in groups and in workshops. It is the students’ needs and preferences that determine which help they receive.
We have methodological freedom and use various recognized counselling and therapy forms, but all work with Feedback Informed Treatment (FIT).
When you work outposted there can, in addition to counselling tasks, also be ad hoc tasks to participate in more overarching wellbeing-promoting collaborations e.g. with study counsellors and teachers. Through such collaborations we increase the accessibility of the Student Advisory’s offerings, and we gain local knowledge that enables us to offer the students even greater coherence in counselling offerings, as well as the opportunity to participate in co-created preventive measures.
All our efforts must be viewed in the context of the Student Advisory’s overall goal of contributing to study motivation and reducing unnecessary dropout for all students in higher education (https://srg.dk/media/o0hl1ef2/strategi.pdf). We have an overarching focus on demystifying and contextualizing the study-life problems the students present while also having a sharp eye for signs of mental disorders and the need for other help or treatment. We are mindful of how we can support students to emerge as competent graduates in wellbeing, even if they have functional impairments or other particular challenges.
We prioritize applicants who have experience with and competencies within
- counselling and therapeutic conversations in different formats within a short-term framework
- assessment of signs of mental disorders and need for other help or treatment
- Feedback Informed Treatment
- independent work and building collaborative relationships combined with active participation in a collegial community
- consultative work, interdisciplinary collaboration and preventive initiatives, preferably in the education sector
We are looking for a colleague who
- is curious about their own and others’ perspectives, dares to challenge assumptions and uses feedback to develop their practice
- can prioritize and maintain professional overview and presence in a everyday life with many conversations and frequent meetings with new students
- works independently and at the same time takes shared responsibility for common tasks, shares knowledge and contributes to colleagues’ learning
- has the courage to try new solutions and adjust them along the way in collaboration with students, colleagues and partners.
Department and collegiality
In the Jutland Department you will become part of a community with 13 counsellors, including you. Seven are based in Aarhus, where some – like you – work partly from the head office at Ryesgade, partly outposted at educational institutions in Aarhus or surrounding areas. Three counsellors work outposted at educational institutions in Region South (currently Esbjerg, Horsens, Vejle, Kolding and Aabenraa), and three work outposted in Aalborg.
At the office in Ryesgade you will also have your department head, and here you will also share daily life with colleagues from the Student Advisory’s Knowledge Center for Inclusive Learning Environments, administrative staff and interns.
We focus on supporting professional and social belonging, wellbeing and community for both our students and our staff/colleagues. We emphasize that you receive a qualified and tailored introduction to tasks and that we can have an open dialogue about the things that matter for you in solving tasks and in your working life in the Student Advisory. As a new employee you will participate in an induction program and be assigned a mentor.
We offer a department with a developing and safe professional community. The advisers often present what they find difficult, and you will meet colleagues who want to learn from each other, who value methodological diversity, are helpful – and not least fun and kind. We have work with a high degree of meaning, where you daily experience that you can make a difference for students in distress.
We aim to support a culture where we see tasks and their solutions as a shared concern and where we take care to support work that has high emotional demands. We offer internal supervision in groups, both in person and online, about three times a month and external supervision in group about once a month. At least twice a year we set aside whole days for learning and immersion and once a year all the people from the Student Advisory gather for a seminar.
We are seeking a colleague who can see themselves in the above – who is curious and open, and who would like to participate in the community, both professionally and collegially.
Apply for the position
Apply for the position via our electronic recruitment system no later than Wednesday 11/11/2026 .
You are encouraged to supplement your written application with a video presentation of about 2 minutes, where you can address the following questions:

- What do you think will be particularly important to emphasize in meeting the individual student?
Interviews are expected to be held on Wednesday 18/11 2026 , Ryesgade 23, 1st floor, 8000 Aarhus C.
