About the job

You know the needs of the clinic. Now you can help bring the solutions further – across Danish hospitals.

Every day clinicians and researchers identify needs and develop new solutions close to patients. But too few innovations move from a promising project to a mature and validated solution that can create real value in the healthcare system.

BETA.HEALTH is the Danish hospitals' joint accelerator for clinical innovation. With grants, expert advice and a tailor-made development process, we help clinicians and researchers translate needs and ideas from hospitals into solutions that can create value for patients and the health system – and make the hospitals better able to solve the biggest challenges together.

From 2027 BETA.HEALTH enters a new five-year period with a grant of 286 million DKK from the Novo Nordisk Foundation and substantial co-financing from the public health service. More than 400 innovation projects must be accelerated, while hospitals become better at sharing methods, competencies and experiences and gathering innovation power around some of the health service's biggest shared challenges.

For that task we are seeking a Vice Center Head.

ABOUT BETA.HEALTH BETA.HEALTH connects the Danish hospitals' innovation power in one national clinical accelerator with five local hubs. Locally, BETA.HUBS work closely with clinicians and innovation projects. Nationally, BETA.CENTRAL creates common direction, methods, quality, learning and coherence across.

Local anchored. Nationally connected.

BETA.CENTRAL is led by the center chief, anchored at Rigshospitalet, and the vice center head, anchored at Aarhus University Hospital. Together they form the daily national leadership of BETA.HEALTH and work on behalf of the overall program – not as representatives of each host hospital.

The vice center head participates together with the center chief in BETA.HEALTH's leadership team, where the innovation directors from Odense University Hospital, Aalborg University Hospital, Sjællands Universitetshospital, Aarhus Universitetshospital and Rigshospitalet also sit.

ABOUT THE POSITION As vice center head you contribute to leading BETA.HEALTH's national development and have a particular responsibility for clinical and professional quality in our work.

Together with the center chief you translate the strategic direction into an accelerator that functions across the hospitals in practice. You must be able to see the overall portfolio from above and understand the clinical reality in which individual projects must succeed.

The role requires a leader who has worked in the clinic himself and knows what it takes to move a good idea forward. You must be able to assess whether a clinical need is real and important, whether a solution has potential, and what it takes to mature and test it. And you must help ensure that clinicians with a busy everyday life get the right support without drowning in processes.

You will have particular responsibility for four areas

  • Set a high professional standard: You are responsible for the common methods and tools we use to help clinical innovation projects move forward. You must ensure that our approach is professionally strong, consistent across the country and usable in a busy clinical everyday life.
  • Create a strong portfolio of clinical innovations: You have the clinical and professional responsibility for the development and operation of our accelerator, as well as an overview of the projects BETA.HEALTH supports across the country. You play a central role in selecting new projects and help ensure that we prioritize innovations with a real clinical need, strong potential and a realistic path forward.
  • Make hospitals better at innovating together: BETA.HEALTH should not only move forward the single project. We must also become better at sharing knowledge, methods and experiences across hospitals. You play a central role in translating what we learn in one place into something that can strengthen work elsewhere – and in developing the staff who daily help clinicians with their innovation projects.
  • Gather the innovation power around common challenges: Part of BETA.HEALTH's work in the future will be based on some of the major challenges the hospitals face in common. Together with local innovation environments you will help engage clinicians across the country and create strong innovation efforts around these challenges.

You work closely with the innovation directors and BETA.HEALTH's local teams at the five university hospitals. You do not have line management responsibility for the local teams, so an important part of the job is to set direction and make things happen through professional weight, trust and strong relationships.

You will have close sparring with the center chief and become part of the national team that works with strategy, learning and impact, communication, partnerships and international cooperation.

ABOUT YOU You preferably have a healthcare professional and/or research background and a strong understanding of how hospitals operate. You know what it takes before a new solution makes sense in a clinical everyday life – and why even good ideas can have trouble moving from project to practice.

At the same time you can lift your gaze from the single innovation and work with portfolios, methods and organizational frameworks. You thrive in a complex landscape where results are created across hospitals, disciplines and organizational boundaries, and where you do not necessarily have formal management authority over those you must create movement with.

The center chief and vice center head should complement each other. You contribute especially with clinical and methodological depth and with the ability to translate strategic ambitions into an accelerator that functions in practice.

We expect that you

  • have a medical or other relevant background with solid experience in clinic, research and development and understand the interplay between new solutions, clinical workflows, procurement, professionalism and organization
  • have management experience or significant experience driving development across departments, institutions or professional groups
  • have experience with clinical innovation and understand the path from clinical need to a mature solution
  • can build trust and following across hospitals and regions – even without formal management authority
  • can combine professional depth with pragmatism and the ability to translate decisions into action.
  • Are structured and a pronounced closer

It is an advantage if you

  • are a medical specialist or have a similarly strong professional profile and preferably research experience, e.g. a PhD.
  • have experience with innovation processes, method development and implementation in the healthcare system
  • have experience with teaching, competency development or training of clinicians
  • have experience navigating between clinics, hospital administrations, universities, industry, foundations and other actors around health innovation.

WE OFFER A rare opportunity to help shape how Danish hospitals work with clinical innovation in the coming years.

You will have a central role in building BETA.HEALTH 2.0 and real influence on the national accelerator – from which projects we prioritize, to how we work with methods, clinical quality, learning and cross-hospital collaboration.

You will become part of a national leadership with close collaboration with the innovation directors of the five university hospitals behind BETA.HEALTH and will gain access to some of the country's strongest clinical and innovative environments.

The position can be full-time or arranged so you maintain a clinical or other professional attachment. There are flexible arrangements, including the possibility of home working when tasks allow it.

EMPLOYMENT TERMS You are employed with Aarhus University Hospital as your daily workplace. Your employer will formally be Rigshospitalet, since Rigshospitalet hosts the national functions in BETA.HEALTH. You will report to the center chief of BETA.HEALTH.

Salary and employment terms follow the applicable collective agreement depending on your background, e.g. as a chief physician or similar.

Your daily place of work is Aarhus University Hospital. Since BETA.HEALTH is a national accelerator, you should expect travel and meetings at hospitals and with partners across the country.

The application deadline is November 22, 2026. We expect to hold interviews on 27/11 and 07/12 with a desired start date of February 1, 2027.
