About the job
Small patients. High professionalism. Strong sense of community.
Imagine a job where tech-enabled nursing goes hand in hand with presence, relationships and families who need you on one of life's most vulnerable days.
At the Neonatal Ward H6 we care for newborns who are born prematurely or ill at birth. We also meet their parents – often worried, overwhelmed and with a great need for reassurance.
Here your professional skills make a difference. Not only for the child, but for the whole family.
We are looking for dedicated nurses for permanent positions and maternity cover with start date 1 November 2026 or by agreement.
A everyday life with both presence and high complexity
Neonatal Ward H6 is part of the HC Andersen Children’s and Youth Hospital at OUH. We provide care and treatment for prematurely born and ill newborns, as well as light obstetric care for mothers in close collaboration with the Obstetrics Department.
We work closely with the Delivery Ward, the Maternity Ward and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
For us, nursing spans a wide range. We treat children needing respiratory support, infection, jaundice, low blood sugar and low birth weight. At the same time we offer early discharge home and home treatment when that is best for the child and family.
All of our patients are admitted acutely. Some stay with us for a few hours, others for several months. Therefore no day is the same, and you will have the opportunity to work with acute situations, longer treatment courses and close relationships with the families.
It is precisely the combination of high professionalism, variation and presence that many of us value the most.
The family is part of the treatment
We work from family-centered nursing and the NIDCAP principles.
For us, the parents are not guests on the ward – they are an active part of the child’s treatment and care. We believe that the best nursing arises when high professionalism, respect and close collaboration go hand in hand.
You will become part of a strong community
When you start with us, you become part of a department where we help each other, share our experiences and develop together.
We have colleagues with everything from a few months of experience to more than 25 years in H6. We are proud of that experience, and we actively use it for sparring, learning and development.
We know that no one can know everything alone – but together we can do a lot.
We prioritize a working environment with openness, humor, professional curiosity and room for questions and reflection. With us you should feel secure, whether you are newly graduated or experienced.
With us you get
- An exciting speciality with high professionalism and great variation.
- Possibility to combine semi-intensive and tech-enabled nursing with the close relationship to the child and family.
- Thorough introduction with a mentoring scheme.
- 6-8 weeks of training outside the norm.
- Introductory and competency program.
- Teaching days for new employees – preferably within the first year.
- Great influence on your work plan via HosInfo.
- A staff group that values collaboration, helpfulness and job satisfaction highly.
- An evolving department where your ideas and your engagement are welcome.
We are looking for you who
- are a licensed nurse.
- are keen to combine family-centered nursing with technological and semi-intensive nursing.
- thrive in both acute situations and longer patient pathways.
- can keep an overview and act constructively when the situation requires it.
- are eager to develop professionally and curious about new knowledge.
- preferably have experience from neonatal or pediatric nursing – but this is not a requirement.
The most important thing for us is that you want to learn, contribute to the community and make a difference for children and their families.
Come and feel the atmosphere
A job advertisement can tell a lot – but not everything.
Therefore you are very welcome to visit, meet your potential future colleagues and experience daily life on H6 before you apply.
We look forward to showing you who we are.
We take care of some of the hospital’s smallest patients. Therefore we also take care of each other.
If that is the way you want to work, we hope you will send us an application.
We look forward to meeting you.
