About the job
Would you contribute to arming Denmark for the new security policy situation? Would you help set the strategic direction in HR for more than 20,000 colleagues? And do you thrive in the tension between politics and HR? Then you may be our new colleague.
About us
Europe and Denmark are in a heightened security policy situation, and the Danish defence is undergoing an extensive strategic transformation that entails a historic strengthening. Security for Denmark and the Danish people in an increasingly complex threat landscape means there is a need to accelerate the build-up of the Defence’s combat power, procure materiel worth billions, strengthen international alliances – not least NATO – and strengthen the defence in the Arctic and North Atlantic.
In the Ministry of Defence’s Office for Strategic HR and Veterans, we have the overall responsibility for developing HR initiatives and strategies in accordance with political priorities and the organisation’s needs. The personnel area is an important focus area in light of the extensive build-up that the entire ministry area and particularly the Defence face. Within the framework of the defence agreement, initiatives for several billions on HR and veteran matters have already been adopted, which we monitor in close cooperation with the Defence.
We also have responsibility for the development of Denmark’s veteran effort and for supporting the minister of defence’s visions in this area. In addition, we have overall responsibility for a number of particularly prioritized areas that concern the conditions for employees in the Ministry of Defence area, for example the leadership area, gender equality, the working environment, salary and collective agreements.
About the position
We have many exciting tasks ahead of us. It is among other things our task to ensure that the HR and veteran initiatives agreed in the defence agreement become reality. This means that we must maintain the agreement’s momentum so that the organisation can complete the implementation of the many initiatives. At the same time, in close collaboration with the Defence, we must develop new measures that can contribute to the build-up in the personnel area.
Your concrete tasks will vary, and you will among other things be
- prepare professional recommendations and decision briefs for the minister
- participate in the strategic development of HR and veteran matters within the organisation
- handle citizen inquiries within HR and veteran matters
- contribute to responses to questions from the Defence Committee and the Parliament
It is expected that you can adapt to changing workloads and varied tasks, and that you are open to adjusting your working hours and tasks as needed.
One of your future colleagues says: “The variation in tasks is really motivating for me. I am engaged in tasks that require long-term thinking, and at the same time I also have classic urgent tasks when I contribute to press inquiries, answer § 20 questions and prepare delivery notes in connection with political negotiations.”
About you
We are looking for an experienced consultant, and we imagine that you have a relevant academic education. You should preferably have a few years of experience from a politically governed organization. Experience with strategic HR or knowledge of the Ministry of Defence’s area is an advantage, but not a requirement.
To succeed in the role, it is important that you can develop concrete and well-considered solutions. You are able to take responsibility for and develop your own portfolio of work. It is important to us that you can provide decision-makers with the necessary understanding of complex subject areas through clear and concise written presentations.
It is also important to us that you show initiative and enthusiasm when working on the tasks. Much of your work depends on good relations with colleagues from other parts of the central administration, the Ministry of Defence’s department and the rest of the organisation. Therefore, it is important that you have good collaboration skills and are approachable.
Your tasks require you to manage them with an overview and tie them to the organisation’s overall strategies. It is expected that you are willing to take an active role and lead. It is important that you are motivated to acquire new knowledge and explore different subject areas.
Employment terms
You are a trained academic and will be employed and paid according to the applicable academic collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and academics in the state. In addition, depending on qualifications there will be the possibility to negotiate allowances. There is a employer-funded pension scheme associated with the position at 18.07 %.
If you would like to know more about salary and employment terms, you are welcome to contact HR consultant Toke Rasmussen at tel. 32 66 59 91.
As an employee of the Ministry of Defence you are covered by some special terms. This means, among other things, that you must be security cleared and maintain this clearance throughout the employment process.
Your daily place of work is Holmens Kanal 9, 1060 Copenhagen K.
We look forward to hearing from you

The application deadline is 25 October 2026.
The employment interviews will be held immediately after, and the hiring process will be completed by the end of November with the aim that you can start on 1 January 2027.
We will ask you to submit your CV, a motivated application and relevant exam transcripts via the link. If it is not possible for you to scan and attach relevant documents, you may bring them to a possible interview.
