About the job

Do you have broad legal experience, strong commercial understanding and a desire to take a central role in one of Europe’s fastest-growing fintech companies? Flatpay is seeking an ambitious Legal Counsel who can function as a close sparring partner for the business across our international markets. With us you will have the opportunity to work at the intersection of legal and commercial, and you will become a strategic sparring partner for our commercial teams.

You will be a central part of Flatpay’s continued scaling and will be responsible for complex legal issues, larger commercial contracts and the development of the legal frameworks and processes that support an international high-growth company.

About the team

The legal team at Flatpay is rapidly evolving and is expected to grow further in the coming period. In addition to colleagues at the head office, you will regularly have contact and spar with legal colleagues in our largest markets. Everyone is closely involved in the legal workflows across the organization, and we work with both internal and external stakeholders and place emphasis on high quality, accountability, accessibility and open dialogue in the team. Your primary areas of responsibility:

As Legal Counsel at Flatpay your responsibilities will include

  • Corporate law & governance: Advise on corporate law matters, group structure, warrants, governance and general corporate housekeeping.
  • International expansion: Support establishment and development of Flatpay in new and existing markets and coordinate with local legal advisors where necessary.
  • Regulatory and compliance-related issues: Work closely with product teams and other relevant teams on legal and regulatory questions in a fintech context.
  • Data, IT security & AI: Independent legal advice within GDPR and AI regulation, including the preparation of policies & guidelines, assessment of new legal requirements and implementation across markets.
  • Legal operations: Develop and professionalize legal processes, templates, policies and governance so that Legal can keep pace with the company’s growth.
  • External counsel: Manage collaboration with external lawyers and specialists, translate and communicate their advice to the business and ensure that it can be applied effectively and commercially in practice.

The role requires that you can stay calm and keep an overview as well as make pragmatic decisions in an organization where speed is high and problems do not come with a manual.

Who are you?

We imagine that you

  • Hold a Master of Laws (cand.jur.) or Master of Mercantile Law (cand.merc.jur.) degree.
  • Have a minimum of 2–4 years of relevant legal experience, for example from a leading law firm, a larger international company, fintech, tech or another regulated industry.
  • Have substantial experience with drafting rollout of terms, policies and processes, as well as training employees and carrying out general awareness across borders.
  • Experience with ongoing assessment of security incidents, risk assessments, professional sparring regarding new products/new business practices, IT security, AI security/compliance.
  • Have strong competencies in several relevant legal areas, such as contract law, corporate law, data protection, technology and regulatory matters.
  • Are comfortable with responsibility and can make well-considered decisions, even when there is no clear legal answer.
  • Have good commercial understanding and the ability to translate complex legal issues into clear legal recommendations.
  • Work independently, in a structured manner and with high quality, but without letting perfection stand in the way of progress.
  • Thrive in a scale-up where priorities can change quickly and where you are expected to take ownership rather than wait for a detailed brief.
  • Speak and write Danish and English at a high level.

Experience from fintech, payments, financial services or another regulated company is an advantage but not a requirement.
