About the job

Would you like to try your hand at management in psychiatry?

Dreaming of combining your clinical experience with leadership? Then read on here.

We are seeking a deputy for the head nurse for ward P1 at the Psychiatric Department Odense-Svendborg, campus in Svendborg. The position is 37 hours per week with starting February 1, 2027 or as agreed.

We are looking for a nurse who wants to take responsibility for daily operations, the development of nursing and a good working environment. You will become a close partner for the head nurse and have the opportunity to develop your leadership skills in safe and professionally strong frames.

About ward P1

P1 is a specialized psychiatric 24-hour inpatient ward with 15 beds. We primarily treat patients with personality disorders, stress reactions and ADHD.

Our treatment is based on a milieu- therapeutic approach and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). We prioritize

  • the relational collaboration with patients
  • close multidisciplinary collaboration with relatives
  • good cooperation with external partners

We are a multidisciplinary staff group, emphasizing professionalism, reflection and a healthy working environment high. We work proactively to prevent conflicts and coercion and with ongoing development of the quality of our treatment.

You mainly have day shifts on weekdays. The working time is 37 hours per week, and as a rule you have weekends on every fourth week – especially in holiday periods. You only enter the staffing norm for weekend work or in case of acute staff absence. The ward has its own schedule planner, so you do not have to handle duty planning.

Your main tasks

As deputy you will have a varied daily routine with both operational, professional and personnel-related tasks. You will, among other things

  • ensure daily professional leadership of care and coordinate the interprofessional collaboration
  • be a sparring partner for the head nurse and the staff
  • contribute to professional development, quality assurance and implementation of new initiatives
  • support daily operations, prioritize tasks and ensure shift coverage in case of acute changes
  • participate in recruitment, introduction and training of new employees
  • support employees' well-being and a good working environment
  • assume the head nurse's tasks during vacation and other absence by agreement

Who are you?

We are looking for a nurse who is professionally engaged and has experience with - or wants to develop themselves within - management. Experience from psychiatry is an advantage, but your motivation and willingness to learn weigh the most.

We attach importance to the following: you

  • communicate clearly and collaborate constructively – also when disagreements arise
  • can stay calm, make decisions and seek sparring when needed
  • are reflective, listening and open to different professional perspectives
  • are reliable and can stand by decisions, even when they are difficult
  • contribute to a daily life characterized by respect, safety, humor and high professionalism

Special education in psychiatric nursing or other relevant further education is an advantage but not a requirement.

What do we offer?

  • a thorough introduction to the ward, the specialty and your tasks
  • a mentorship program as needed – minimum six months
  • regular staff meetings, supervision and weekly professional reflection
  • good opportunities for professional and personal development
  • engaged colleagues and an interdisciplinary workplace with focus on quality, collaboration and well-being

You will have the opportunity to try leadership in practice and learn whether a leadership career is the right path for you.
