About the job

Anesthesia Department, Center for Cancer and Organ Diseases (CKO)

Are you an anesthesiology nurse, and are you motivated by complex patient journeys, high professional standards and a strong collegial community?

At the Anesthesia Department in the Center for Cancer and Organ Diseases (CKO) at Rigshospitalet, we are seeking an anesthesiology nurse for a permanent position of 37 hours per week or by agreement, with employment starting January 1, 2027 or after.

With us you will become part of a highly specialized environment where collaboration, professional development and patient care at the highest level are in focus.

About the department We are 32 professionally engaged anesthesiology nurses who work closely with the department's specialists, social and health care assistants as well as operating and recovery room nurses to create the best possible patient pathways. The clinic employs approx. 150 staff, and we perform around 7,000 anesthesia procedures annually.

We have 14 operating rooms, an emergency room and external tenants in the endoscopy department and radiology. We anesthetize patients within three exciting specialties, including major open surgery as well as cancer, transplantation, robotic and endovascular surgery:

  • Vascular surgery – open surgery and endovascular procedures
  • Urology/Nephrology – open, laparoscopic and robot-assisted surgery
  • Abdominal surgery – gastroenterology, liver-, pancreas- and trauma surgery as well as robot-assisted surgery
  • Interventional radiology (PTC, AV malformations, coils, TIPS, etc.)
  • Propofol sedation and general anesthesia for endoscopy patients

Anesthesias vary greatly in character and complexity – from complex, long-lasting courses to acute courses with seriously ill patients and to smaller fast-track anesthesia. This provides variation and professional challenge in daily clinical work.

CKO is also facing an organizational development, where vascular surgery is established as an independent unit. This gives you the opportunity to further specialize in anesthesia for complex vascular surgical patients and to help shape the organization and collaboration forms in the new unit.

Responsibilities As our new colleague you will, among other things, come to

  • Master complex anesthesias, primarily for patients in ASA groups 3-5
  • Work with hemodynamics, transfusion strategies and fluid therapy
  • Handle large setups and a wide range of equipment for advanced monitoring
  • Engage in mono- and multi-disciplinary collaboration on quality and safety in patient pathways

Please also consider your views on organ donation before you apply – it is a fixed part of on-call work, for which you will receive training. Pediatric anesthesia occurs rarely; the department is third in line for cardiac arrest and assists in rare cases in the trauma center.

On-call structure and working hours We work in two-shift cycles with on-call from the on-call room or residence (16 or 24 hours), typically with 2 anesthesiology nurses on evening/night duty and one on-call shift from residence. There is always a specialist anesthesiologist on site.

Expect to be on call about every 3-4 weekends. The on-call plan is created according to the wish plan and typically published 6-8 weeks in advance, with consideration to individual preferences.

Professional development and onboarding We prioritize professional development, research and education, as well as a good and secure start in the department. We offer, among other things:

  • Individually tailored introductory program, with 2 mentors attached and gradual integration into on-call work
  • The first 4-6 weeks off normal staffing limits
  • Weekly Thursday teaching, cross- and mono-disciplinary theme days and professional interest groups
  • Opportunities to participate in relevant courses
  • Training in ultrasound-guided venous access (PVK)
  • Opportunity to become supervisor for our trainees, and ultimately receive 1/6 diploma in Communication and Teaching Practice
  • Clinical nursing senior researcher and an active research unit that supports research and development

Working environment and collegiality With us you will meet colleagues who help each other, share knowledge and prioritise the sense of community. There is room for good humor, but also support through debriefing and defusing when cases are difficult. Our AMIR, the occupational health group and visible leadership maintain ongoing focus on the working environment. We arrange both professional and social activities, and we emphasise that it should be enjoyable to go to work.

We are looking for you who

  • Is a trained anesthesiology nurse
  • Thrives in complex patient pathways and high specialization
  • Is proactive, positive and collaborative
  • Is professionally curious and has an interest in professional development, education and quality
  • Has good IT skills
