About the job
Architectural project manager for urban development and municipal planning
Do you want to help shape the direction for development in Viborg Municipality?
One of our good colleagues has retired with a well-deserved pension, and we are therefore looking for an architectural project manager for urban development and municipal planning. You should be able to see the big picture and translate political ambitions and long-term visions into strategic plans and concrete projects. You will play a central role in setting the direction for the municipality's physical development and creating good conditions for living the lived life.
Viborg Municipality is, in terms of area, the second-largest municipality in the country and the tasks as project manager span a wide range. The municipal plan sets the direction for both urban development, densification, architectural quality and the development of the municipality's many towns and the open countryside.
Your role and your tasks
You may, among other things, participate in implementing Plan Strategy 2045, concrete urban development projects and thematic supplements to the municipal plan. Across the tasks, you should create a good interaction with politicians, citizens and stakeholders and help to translate visions from the first strategic considerations into practice.
The tasks depend on your competences and interests (we’re quite good at listening and adapting), but can include, among others:
- contribute to Plan Strategy 2045 - from organizing theme meetings and political involvement to strategic choices, prepared basis and political processing
- participate in strategic urban development plans, holistic plans and concrete development projects with a view to architectural quality and physical shaping
- municipal planning in a broad sense, including municipal plan revision and thematic supplements
- translate political goals, analyses and development trends into city strategy, clear planning tools, concrete projects and/or usable planning basis
- organize and implement processes that create good dialogue and a constructive interaction with politicians, citizens, local communities, businesses, consultants and other stakeholders
- ensure planning professional and planning-legal quality and prepare clear decision proposals and political cases.
You will have independent responsibility for your own tasks and projects in close collaboration with colleagues. We expect you to be familiar with the role of project manager and to thrive with the exciting responsibility that comes with it. You can plan processes, create overview and drive complex tasks safely from idea to result.
Who are you?
We assume that you are educated as an architect or urban designer and have experience with project management, municipal planning and/or urban development from a municipality or from a consultancy where you have worked closely with municipalities. You understand and value the municipal and political reality and can navigate between professional considerations, political ambitions, legislation and different interests.
We especially emphasize that you
- have a strong strategic and spatial perspective and can translate long-term visions into architecturally qualified plans, physical actions, sketch drawings and/or usable planning basis
- possess knowledge of the Planning Act, planning jurisprudence and municipal planning processes
- take initiative, work structurally and can drive complex processes safely from idea to result
- can plan and lead processes with many actors and interests without losing sight of the whole, quality and details
- communicate clearly and precisely and make complex planning-technical issues understandable and relevant
- actively collaborate across disciplines, bring in other professional perspectives, share knowledge and take co-responsibility.
A team where we lift together
The Strategy and Development Department consists of 20 colleagues in five teams. We work for sustainable and strategic development of towns and rural areas – and for Viborg Municipality to be a good place to live, work and thrive.
You will be anchored in one of the five teams in the department, and your scope of work will cross the department's teams and other parts of Teknik & Miljø, including the Byplanafdelingen (Urban Planning Department). We see interdisciplinarity as a strength and expect you to be curious about others' professional disciplines and actively contribute to joint solutions. You can read more about the department here: Contact Teknik & Miljø in Viborg Municipality - Viborg Municipality
The department’s values are organization, courage, respect and trust. In practice, this means we prioritize tasks together, dare to take responsibility and bring new perspectives into play, treat each other properly and make room for professional sparring. We believe in team spirit and that we are most successful when we help each other, share knowledge and take co-responsibility.
What you get with us
You get a professionally exciting position with great responsibility and opportunities to influence the strategic development of a diverse municipality with a beautiful, historic main town in growth, a range of smaller towns and large coherent natural areas. You will have independent responsibility, engaged colleagues and good opportunities for sparring and professional development. We offer flexible working conditions with flex time and good opportunities for home office in a collaborative environment where both task-solving and collaboration are valued.
Salary and terms of employment
The salary is determined on the basis of the applicable collective agreement and a concrete assessment of your education, your documented professional experience, and your professional and personal qualifications. Viborg Municipality uses objective and gender-neutral criteria for salary setting in accordance with the rules on equal pay for equal work or work of equal value.
