We are seeking talented candidates from all hospitals in the upcoming Region East Denmark for up to 10 professorships in clinical innovation, who as part of the collaboration around Technical University Hospital (TUH), will work at the intersection of technical and clinical sciences and contribute to translating clinical needs into innovative solutions with value for patients and society.

The aim is to strengthen innovation capacity and interdisciplinary research across hospitals in Region East Denmark and DTU. The positions are anchored at DTU and allocated to researchers active in innovation at the region’s hospital departments.

The Job

Your central tasks include teaching, research and innovation. Your overarching focus will be to bridge clinical research and practical experience and the technical research environments, including how your research and knowledge can be applied in teaching in the technical education programs. You will have a particular focus on strengthening innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration between clinical environments and technical research environments, and to contribute to translating clinical needs into research and innovation projects.

You will work closely with clinical departments, DTU researchers and students, and contribute to building a strong local innovation culture and promoting applied research.

Your primary tasks will be to

  • Teach, involve and supervise DTU students in innovation activities (e.g., during Health Tech Challenges in the DTU course Innovation in Engineering, or in the course 'needfinding at the hospital' and clinical prototyping e.g., in TUH Skylab)
  • Coordinate teaching and curriculum including quality assurance and selecting external instructors.
  • Serve as a bridge between clinical departments and DTU’s technical disciplines
  • Drive and contribute to interdisciplinary innovation projects from idea to implementation and scaling
  • Identify and mature innovation opportunities based on clinical needs
  • Advise colleagues on innovation processes and collaboration across disciplines
  • Help build and anchor a local innovation culture in the clinic
  • Disseminate results through conferences and other relevant channels

Qualifications and Evaluation

As a formal qualification you must have a PhD or equivalent as well as qualifications corresponding to at least associate professor level. In addition you must have documented didactic/pedagogical training. If you do not have this, a plan will be developed at the time of appointment for how these competencies should be obtained. These will in that case be separately assessed after a maximum of 2 years.

In addition, emphasis will be placed on

  • Documented scientific production
  • Experience with innovation (e.g., patents/IPR, startups, innovation grants or collaboration with companies)
  • Experience with interdisciplinary research projects that combine clinical and technical sciences
  • Ability and motivation to promote an innovation culture and competencies in the clinic through local and cross-cutting initiatives.

To be considered for a professorship in clinical innovation you must obtain a positive professorship assessment. You will be evaluated according to the current requirements for professors at DTU based on the above-described responsibilities and qualifications as well as the following general criteria:

  • Experience with teaching and the quality of teaching
  • Research experience
  • Research vision and research potential
  • International visibility and experience
